A: Dark reddish brown with a big bubbly tan head that sticks around well.

S: Sweet caramel and sugar, yeasty aromas, dark fruits.

T/M: Lots of sweet brown sugar and caramel up front, rich and delicious. Complex layers of fruit. Yeasty, bready flavors crop up towards the end of each sip, along with some warming alcohol. Heavily carbonated and prickly.

O: Really big, complex, tasty Belgian quad with loads of flavor. It's heavy and intense, so good.

have had bottled and on-tap, this review is from the draft. (@ deep ellum, allston, MA)

served in a st. bernardus draft chalice.

pours a murky amber/russet brown tone with two solid fingers of creamy, slightly tan/off-white head... dark, though not as dark as some quads i've experienced. great retention; moderate lacing. the nose is a potpourri of belgian yeast, caramel malts, and spices, with strong dark fruit characteristics.

taste exceeds the smell, with the dark fruits having expanded; yeast, sweet malts and spices, a hop presence, brown sugar and a not unpleasant warming alcohol which follows. complex and delicious.

heavy, full-bodied mouthfeel with medium to light carbonation. drinkability is high. dangerous so. in the final analysis i'd put this a step below rochefort 10, but still a truly great beer.

Poured from a 750ml bottle to a goblet glass.

A- Pours a murky nontransparent plum, with a 4 finger head that settles to 1/4 inch head through out the glass.

S- Right up front, booze soaked rasins, plums, cotten candy, and figs. Big bready malts mixed with sweet caramels and a nice cherry wood finish.

T- Carbonation opens up the tongue for a big sweet blast. Rich dark fruits, caramel, licorice, mashed cherries and alcohol.

M- Big carbonation, full bodied, creamy velvet feel, with a smooth sweet, red wine finish.

O- Great beer, amazing complexity, totally a treat.

An opaque brown from the bottle becomes a deep murky brown once in the glass. Held up to the light shows a deep reddish mahogany coloring that is beautiful. And incredibly frothy, four-finger head takes it's sweet time dissipating. Lacing is prevalent and thick.

Wow. Figs, raisins, cherries hit on the very tip of the nose but quickly becomes a strong rum soaked scent. There's a sweet bread character lurking in the background. Very sweet overall and almost wine like. Phenols are blossoming left and right. Extremely complex and heavy on the nose.

The sweet raisin and fig notes carry well on the front of the tongue and they dominate the top of the palate. The a strong sweet bread character on the center of the tongue that starts to blossom in warming alcohol at the end. The sugar shines on the center but doesn't carry to powerfully to not let the bread character shine. I'm impressed by the alcohol lightness.

Very, very carbonated and I think that helps the flavors move better than the would otherwise. Things could be quite strong without the powerful carbonation and it makes sense here.

A wonderful example of the Quad as a style and a new favorite. The complex flavors here are wonderful and this is something I could sip on many nights.
