Pours a dark brown hint of copper with a giant head and big bubbles which quickly dissipated. Kind of looks like root beer.

Smells of spices, yeast, a bit of caramel, dried figs or other dark fruit, and dark bread. Also has a bit of champagny smell, and a hint of booze.

Taste is very much like the smell, spices, toffee, fruit, roasted nuts and molasses bread. Nice alcohol presence make for a well rounded complex flavor.

Good carbonation give it a light feel, but has the hint of alcohol and thickness of the sugars to make it a very nice feel.

Overall, I enjoyed this beer, and well, I better, this is more than I ever spent on a single beer evar! Great complexity in every aspect of the beer make this very enjoyable.

Bottle poured into St. Bernardus Chalice

Quick fading three finger head, beer is light brown and the head is pale white.

Smell: Raisins, grape, figs, and fresh fruit. Also featured is a brown sugar feeling that is brilliant!!

Taste: Dark fruits abovementioned in smell, alongside the brown sugar. This is a brilliant beer

M: Perfect!!!

Overall, this is a beer well worth having. Try it as soon as possible. You will not regret it!!

A: This is such a great looking beer. It pours a nice dark brown with a red copper tint to it. The head is white and very thick. The head slowly fades and leaves a nice bit of lace on the glass. Just a very great looking beer. The beer never truly loses it head, but it stays nice and smooth.

S: I really like quads because of the smell of the beer, it reminds me so much a port style wine. I am getting some fig, some strong malt and even some grape. Just very nice and amazing.

T: There are so many different flavors in this beer. I love the fruity taste of this beer. Again it reminds me a lot of a wine, but better. At first on the beer I am getting just a strong dark fruit taste and then over time it evolves into a strong amount of malt. Just a great tasting beer.

M: The beer has a nice amount of crispness to it, but nothing overwhelming at all. It leaves a sort of try feeling in the mouth. Very nice.

O: This is just an all around great beer. There arent tons of beers like this around me and I am glad that I got to try it. I still prefer Westy 12, but this is very close in quality and taste. Well done.

A: Dark cloudy brown/dark red when held to the light. Small white foamy head appears on pour but dissipates to the sides quickly.

S: A lovely smell of sweet dark fruits like fig, raisin, and grapes with some light fruits like apple and pear, with a sweet malty/toffee back, that Belgian yeast, cloves/spices and with a slight tinge of alcohol. Smells great!

T: The fruits and spices are the leaders, I keep getting a pear/apple taste with it though, in front of the dark fruits. Spices are there, all with a toasted and caramel malt background. alcohol is not really noticeable. A slight sourness is also in the mix, which I haven't decided if I like with this style.

M: Medium to full body with a medium to high carbonation. Fits the beer very well.

O: A very nice quad. I see why its rated so high. The sourness of this one establishes it from others, I believe. Its certainly not bad, just different. Cheers!

A - Pours a very dark brown/amber color with a thin off-white head and good lacing.

S - Sweet fruits, candy sugar, and yeast. Some caramel as well.

T - Dark fruits, some caramel and candy sugar flavors. Alcohol noticeable as well (though not in a "hot" way). A little on the sour side.

M - Medium bodied, good carbonation. Relatively smooth and drinkable.

O - I enjoyed St. Bernardus Abt 12 and it's a great example of the quad style. I don't think it quite lives up to the hype, but it's enjoyable and relatively decently priced/widely available, so I imagine it'll be a beer that I revisit multiple times in the future. A nice beer to sit back and enjoy.

This beer packs a punch. At 12% ABV it can't be wrong for a good time. I first tried this beer at a cigar bar while trying to mix fine cigars with fine beer. I was not let down, however, I found this beer to have a strong alcohol taste. There is not much else for me to say about this beer. It will take your buzz to the next level, and make you question how you got to where you are since it finishes smooth and to the point.

This beer needs to be served in a sniffer as it has many aromas that can't be appreciated in a pint glass.

If you have a chance, pick up St. Bernardus's sampler that comes with a sniffer glass...well worth the money.
