on tap @ the the trappist in san francisco.
served in a silver rimmed st. bernardus goblet.
a - a perfect pour by the bartender yields a hazy, reddish brown liquid with a finger of creamy, tan head. head eventually calms to a thin film with thick swaths of sticky lace in the glass.
s - clove, caramel, freshly baked bread, cinnamon, candi sugar.
t - starts off spicy with clove notes and moves quickly into sweet, sugary malt. more spice rolls in than fades into a bittersweet finish. well balanced but definitely malt forward.
m - heavier side of medium, feels prickly on the tongue due to the yeast/spicy characters in the flavor. medium carbonation.
o - a damn fine beer. thoroughly enjoyable and recommended.
