A-dark brown with a ruby tint and a good light tan head that stays.

S-very malty with a hint of dark belgian malts.

T-comes in with a decent taste of cinnamon with a faint taste of dark belgian malts. its a subtle taste with a subtle after-taste of cinnamint. its tastes like cinnamon bubble gum to me. there's a slight bitterness in there towards the end, not one that i like.

M-medium to high carbonation with a watery finish

O-its subtle, but it does start to grow on you the more you drink it. compared to other dubbels i've had though, this doesn't quite compare. it is fairly unique though and i do appreciate the lower ABV than many belgians. it just doesn't have the great taste that many belgians do. it is easy drinking though.

Pater 6 pours a cloudy amber color with no head. There is a very dry and very sweet aroma, with some dry grape almost wine like notes. The taste is dry and very very sweet, with some grape notes, and has a wine like flavor. The flavors are good and strong, but very flat feel. Overall its nice, but very very sweet, and too sweet for me.

This offering from St. Bernardus pours a dark brown with a thick bubbly tan head. The aroma is brown sugar, prunes, figs, and plums.

The taste is tart upfront soft herbal bitterness followed by some smooth caramel sweetness, fruit, dark pitted finishing a bit tart and bready in the end decent beer but surprisingly sub-par for a St. Bernardus offering. I will have to re-visit down the road.

The first beer of my St Bernardus evening. I have a mixed four pack of 330ml bottles that I am drinking, reviewing three as I go (I have already reviewed the 12 some time ago).

This bottle is best before 15th Feb 2010, today is 1st March 2008. It was poured into my Westmalle bowl glass.

Looks wonderful at first, a deep clear redish brown with a full light biege foaming head. The head fell away just a bit to quickly for me, I like it to stay untila at least I've had a sip or two.

Rich malty molasses fill your nose and a toffee, coffee sweetness comes through too.

The taste was a big let down for me, none of the flavours of the smell comes through into the actual beer. It is almost the blandest and tasteless dubbel I can remember having and I have had more than a few over the years.

It can't be discribed as watery, but it isn't a thick or viscous in any way either. A sourness comes into the mouthfeel as the beer warms in the mouth and I didn't like that either!

All in all a mixed start to my evening of tastings. I was expecting a lot more from this beer.

This beer poured out as a nice shade of deep orange brown, the head was tan and foamy. The lacing wasn't too bad. The smell of the beer was earthy and had a little spice on the nose followed by some brown sugary sweetness. The taste is of dark fruits and Belgian yeast, a little bit of spice in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is lightly carbonated and has a gentle soft feel to it. Overall it's a pretty good Dubbel.

Poured a ruby dark brown with a creamy full head.

Smell had a funky yeast odor with hints of brown malts.

Flavor is mild with a light molasses malt and some mild hops with a touch of cedar and bread notes. A bit of sourdough yeast funk also comes through.

Mouthfeel is creamy and full, easily the high point of this beer.

Easy to drink, but not good enough that I would seek it out to often.

Pours a two finger off-white head that fades slowly to a thin layer, leaving some lace. Hazy brown color. Not much to the nose. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is hard to nail down like a brown with hints of dark fruit, dry finish. $17.00 for a gift pak of four 330ml bottles from Tully's Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Appearance: Poured from the 11oz bottle into the St. Bernardus goblet. Pours a dark murky brown with some ruby notes. Off-white head is two fingers thick, somewhat foamy, and sticks around for quite a while.

Smell: A very unique smell that I can't quite pin down. I detected an earthy note, along with a certain spicy character that reminds me most of clove. Sweet dark fruits also come through along with a hint of alcohol that is quickly covered by candylike yeast.

Taste: Initial sweetness is immediately muted by a strangely offputting medicinal character. Luckily, that taste fades into a nice biscuity malt flavor, along with a certain note that reminded me somewhat of molasses. Strange tasting beer, but went well with some havarti that I paired with it.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and full-bodied, but leaves a chalky feeling in the mouth for a short period. Didn't detract too much, but was still weird to feel.

Notes: Not the best offering from a usually stellar (onei of my personal favorites) brewery. Not bad, but I don't think I'll be picking this one up again.

330ml bottle drank from the st bernardus chalice. first time using it and this seems like an appropriate choice. best before augest 12, 2011.

A- this one pours out a murky lightish brown colored body with a large beige colored head. the head lasts a while and leaves behind solid rings of lacing.

S- pretty soft nose here. bready malts and sweet dark fruits. grapes, figs, and dates. a slight spiciness.

T- the taste is a lot stronger than the nose. it starts out pretty spicy. cloves come to mind. sweet dark fruits (grapes, figs, dates, and raisins) follow. belgian yeast, and a little bit of alcohol.

M- light bodied and thin. almost watery. a very high level of carbonation is almost stinging my tongue.

D- kind of a disappointment. probably wont be going back to this one. lets hope the other two beers in this gift set are a little more to my liking.

First of the St. Bernardus I'll be having hopefully it won't be the last.

Appearance - Hazy maroon with 1 finger head thats sticks around, so much sediment that it looks like an old fish bowl.

Smell - Raisins and a fig/plum smell all over this with a nice yeast and malt scent hidden in there.

Taste - Raisins and plum with lots of bready yeast. After taste is slightly spicy.

Mouthfeel - Smooth but not refreshing at all with a clean finish, slight alcohol warmth.

Overall - Not that great of a dubbel left my tastebuds wanting something more it smells better than it taste. That said go grab one and see for yourself.

Out of the presumably fresh seasonal 4-pack with lettered goblet. Appearance is a dark, plum-y brown. Head kicks up strong but leans to ½” and drops down sheets of tanned patterns.

Nose reminds me of a cross between ground cinnamon and candi sugar with whiffs of near-frankincense hints. As warmth envelops its much more pear-y and plum-y.

The high-carbonation level of this beer transforms this into something better than it would be without it; acts simultaneously weighty, clingy, and spry on the mouth. Its quite angular and beautiful at the same time. Dark fruits and seltzer-y phenols make this addictive and quenching. The Bernardus line is just rock-solid.

11.2 oz bottle, best before 8/8/08. Pours a tea color with a large but kind of fizzy off white head that retains well.

The aroma is metallic bananas, bready malt, yeast and a little clove.

The flavor is pretty mild. It's some bready malt and sweet nuttiness with some very subdued spices and a little lightly metallic light bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a little harsh carbonation.

Overall, a little on the bland side, but the more I drank of it, the more I started to enjoy it.

11.2 oz bottle poured into a Leffe glass. 6.7% ABV, 46-50 F serving temp, Best before end 16 06 11.

A - Pater 6 pours a totally hazed amber color in the light but otherwise it looks a bit muddy. Very effervescent at first, an off-white head sprang up only to drop to a thin layer with no lace left over.

S - Dark candi sugar is all over the nose with a slightly musty, lightly toasted malt aroma. It smells like it'll be very sweet. No hops present here. There is a fine hint of raisin but it's a fairly one-dimensional nose.

T - Toasted malts come out right away with a biscuity flavor. Lots of dark candi sugar adds an interesting flavor but the sweetness is off-set by a light coffee roast thing in the finish. Hops are felt more than tasted. A bit more depth than the nose but not by much.

M - I feel like the excessive carbonation hurts the beer overall. It doesn't do the flavor any favors. It could stand to be much more flat and robust. Rather than medium-bodied and sparkling and crisp, the flavor and mouthfeel should be a bit more "syrupy and rich" so it doesn't create the disjointed effect the carbonation has.

D - Meh. Not a great example of a dubble for me. Not a terrible brew by any means, but so much more could be done here. It's not really inviting in any way and just bland overall.

Murky brown pour topped with a fluffy mocha head. Plums and prunes in the aroma. Roasted malts too, with a mild alcohol waft to back it all up. Wood and prunes in the mouth, roasted malts, with a fruity alcohol aftertaste. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Pretty good.
