A - Pours a lovely dark, deep-reddish brown. A tall, off-white head recedes rather slowly, but maintains a skimming of bubbles that leaves a smattering of lacing on the glass.

S - All of the deep aromas that one would expect from a dubbel, but I could go for a little more potency. Some caramel sweetness, dark fruit, maybe fig. A little breadiness.

T - Follows the nose. Caramel up front, then dark fruit. Breadiness comes in on the back end. While the flavors are subtle, which I like, they border on too thin with this one. Also, there is a mildly unpleasant aftertaste that clings to my mouth.

M - This is the week spot of the beer for me. This beer started on the light side of medium-bodied and never really swayed from there. Perhaps that is to style, but I would have preferred a bit more. Leaves a bit of stickiness in my mouth.

O - On its own merits this is a very good beer. Unfortunately, I can't help but compare it to the Pater 8, and I would select the 8 10 out of 10 times ahead of this one.

A- Pours a murky brown hue with a huge, chunky, 2.5 finger beige head.

S- Slightly yeasty, hints of chocolate

T- Chocolate, sweet pear, cherry, slight hop bitterness.

M- Medium bodied with medium/high carbonation.

D- Very drinkable. The high carbonation detracts a little for me but i'm sure it is good with some age on it.

Brown amber color with a thick beige head with great retention and leaving a wall of laces. Apparent carbonation. It got murky and darker after I poured the residual liquid.
Nice aroma of prunes, caramel malt, brown sugar and cashews.
Fruity flavor with notes of prunes, herbal and earthy hops, spices, candied sugar, yeast, pears, ripped strawberries, cinnamon and creamy chocolate. Dry aftertaste with a mild bitterness.
Medium velvety body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 6.7% abv is completely absent.
Classic example of the style, a really pleasant and balanced Dubbel. It was definitely worth it to keep it in storage for a couple of years.

Perfectly fills a Chimay chalice with a perfect and patient pour. 1 1/2 fingers of flat white, very barely tan, firm head. Retention is unbelievable. Brew is a nut brown, hazy in the middle, but fairly clear, with red highlights, on the edges. Lots of visible sediment in the light.

Huge nose, even straight from the fridge: first bananas, and a hint of clove; yeast and candi sugar; then, nuts and dark fruits, specifically raisins and/or prunes. A rye kind of earthy spiciness that becomes more apparent as it warms, while the fruit softens.

Great balance: liquid fruit bread with spices. Follows the nose. Not quite as sweet, heavier on the spices. Sweetness more on the mid palate, with a dry and spicy finish. Complex, but it all blends together very smoothly, with perhaps too much emphasis on spice.

Smooth, balanced, and medium feel. Lively with no sting. Dry, but lasting finish, with a slowly building warmth. Slight foaming.

Excellent Dubbel, easily the best I've had in a while. I think I prefer Chimay and Westmalle (likely in that order), but this fits the bill. Beer that drinks like a meal.*

Unsure on the bottle date.

*Riff on Campbell's Chunky. No thievery intended; credit where due.

Bottle labeled with a drink by 9/17/15. Poured into a tulip.

A balanced double but a version that is nowhere near the top of the style. Excellent in some characteristics under achieving in others. Visually, this beer reminds me of muddy water. 3.75

A – Pours a cloudy, reddish brown with a two-finger beige head. 3.5

S – Yeasty, spice, minor alcohol notes, some mild fruitiness of raisins and plums. 4.5

T – Malty, nutty. 3.75

MF – Medium bodied, dry finish, a bit metallic in the finish, well carbonated giving a little sharpness on the palate. 3

Poured bottle dated 7/25/16 into St Bernardus glass

A-Pours a deep amber color with a good foamy head that fades slowly to nice lacing.

S-Aroma of dark fruit, with bit of malt sweetness yeast and spice.

T-Taste has a nice light malt sweetness with dark fruit mixed in and a touch of spice. Mild bitterness and the finish is quite dry.

M-Medium body, smooth with abundant character. Very well balanced.

O-Overall a very enjoyable beer which I could drink over and over.

Delicious and rich, malty, ripe figs, nice smooth finish. No acute sweetness, did I mention delicious? Really well done, you can tell the brewmasters are keen on quality. had one these for the last eight years and i have never been disappointed. An everyday Belgian no matter what season of the year.

Poured from a bottle into a Chimay chalice. The pour is deep read, clear, and fairly dark. It sports 2 fingers of dense beige foam which lasts a good long while. The nose is rich, sweet, and slightly fruity with some fruity esters and spicy phenols. In particular, I get toffee-like malt notes, fresh apples, and baking spices. I also get a cherry-like note as well.

The beer has a medium body and a flavor that follows the nose quite well. There are bready flavors up front. Chocolate-like flavors, raisins, and other dried fruits come in around mid-palate. The finish is void of bitterness, but a good level of carbonation stimulates the palate and allows the other flavors to linger a bit.

Overall, an exceptional example of the style. It has that nice marriage of malty flavors, dark fruits, and that distinctive puff pastry flavor characteristic of Belgian yeast. I generally reach for Quads instead of Dubbels, but I'm very glad I finally got around to trying this beer. It is outstanding.

From Beer Cartel. BB 2016.

A - deep brown, reddish hues. Two finger head. Swirl reinvigorates nicely.

S - slightly burnt caramels, butterscotch, brown sugar.

T - sweet palate, more brown sugar, malt central, raisins, sherry.

M - medium carbonation, maybe more than one might expect.

O - solid, well made, true to style and very drinkable.

A: Pours a deep amber brown hue, translucent when poured, opaque in the glass, with a light tan head.

S: Lots of sugary notes, burnt, candi, caramel-like, in the nose.

T: Toasty, roasty malt, caramel, burnt sugar. Pretty good. One of the better dubbels I've tried.

M: Medium bodied and smoothish.

O: As I said before, it's one of the better dubbels I've tried. That's not saying much, but it is good and well worth a try. Recommended.

Pours a cloudy, muddy light brown with a good bit of carbonation.

Smells of spice, fruity and that Belgian yeast.

Mild fruit flavor with a slight black pepper spice to it.

A lot of fizz, easy drinking and light for a dubbel

Overall a good dubbel, kind of toned down in the dark fruits. I'd drink this one again.

Os grandes rótulos costumam ter seus primos mais pobres, porém de qualidade e respeito. A St. Bernardus 6 está um pouco longe dos carros chefes da cervejaria, mas mesmo assim merece respeito. É um cerveja agradável e de qualidade. Antes de tudo, uma St. Bernardus.

Poured into a goblet thick white foam over a cloudy brown; it faded into spotty lacing. Smells of fruit and alcohol spice and toasted bread. Tastes slightly of coffee, rye bread, chocolate, alcohol and yeast. It's slightly watery and dry, which takes down on its drinkability.

A: pours easy, settles fast to a bronze color, with a sudsy head, leaving near perfect lacing
S: sweet and sour, fruity, earthy
Taste: as good as it gets. Fruits, pears, apples. Belgium yeasty taste is great
Mouthfeel. Smooth, finishes slightly sour
Overall, love it, because of that Belgium yeast taste- hard to describe for me, but I really like them lately

Dated 08 12 15 (I assume "best by").

A: Pours a clear, deep red. Enormous and frothy light brown head. Head fades slowly with great retention. Moderate wide splotches of lacing here and there.

S: Hmph, bright and crisp apples and maybe even pears up front. Bready and yeasty aroma too - hint of cloves. Super inviting for a dubbel (probably the best dubbel aroma ever).

T: Again, fruity. Definitely apples, pears and maybe some raisin. Lots of cloves and a pleasant sweetbread malt as well. A little bit of tartness on the back end, surprisingly. Just a touch, gives it a crisp apple flavor.

M: Medium bodied with high carbonation. Gives it an airy, fluffy sort of mouthfeel without being too watery.

O: Easily the best dubbel I've ever had. Very crisp, very refreshing. Most dubbels I find to be very bland and one dimensional. This is a great departure.

Appearance: A beautiful dark brown color, decent tan head that leaves good lacing

Smell: First thing that hits you up front is fruit, dark fruits like plums, then there is some maltiness and Belgian yeast character

Taste: A nice bready malt up front, with a fruity plum flavor. Some Belgian yeast character. A fantastic flavors in here, a little hard to identify everything

Mouthfeel: Medium body, good carbonation, feels perfect

Overall: St. Bernardus never disappoints, and this is no exception. Excellent example of a dubbel.

A - flat brown. 1 1/2 finger head that fades.
S - brown sugar. Caramelized pears. Dried plums.

T - complex but mild flavors. Raisins, strong yeast. Somewhere in the back is faint pears and green apple.

M - a little too thin, but still good. Good carb.

Overall, my 2nd Bernardus brew, I don't care for them. Their yeast profile, probably fermented at higher temps. Whatever it is I dont care for it

Pours dark brown with a big foamy tan head. Even as the beer sits, the head stays at an even skim. Good clingy film of lace.

Brown sugar, sugared dates, dark malt and yeast in the nose.

Some sweet malt up front, with some sweet brown bread. Dries out instantly. Mild bitter brown bread crust and a little earth. Slight alcohol burn at the back. Mild bitter and malt finish.

Medium bodied, decent carbonation.

Very drinkable. Layered flavors that transition. Very good.

Serving was ~12 oz bottle poured into a goblet. The pour formed a thin slightly off-white head into a hazy brownish amber color. The smell had notes of raisins, plums and caramel. It had a delicious aroma. The taste followed the smell and had notes of caramel and raisins. It had a very smooth mouth feel. Overall, a solid dubbel.

Best before 07/27/15. Offered a Bornem glass with my bottle at the Sharp Edge.

Somewhat hazy, red-brown color. The head collected about an inch and a half. Retained not so well. Lacing is mediocre, at best.

Dark fruits include plum, bitter apple, and fresh fig with phenols of clove and star anise. Big dry brown breadiness with a mild nutty note. Yeasty, but not huge. Smells great.

Semi-dry with fruity tones. Prune, oxidized apple, clove, raisin, fig, spicy yeast, anise, Irish soda bread (notes of caraway), and roasty malts. Brown bread notes with a softness and roundness. The body is medium with an added airiness from a mild, but coarse, carbonation. Very quaffable for a complex Belgian dark ale.

A very good dubbel, indeed. A good cold weather beer that keeps drinking momentum and doesn't infringe on further imbibing.

Appearance- You should definitely be careful with this one- this is almost a gusher. Pretty good retention as well. The head is a light beige with hints of cinnamon while the body is a dark amber with notes of maroon which appears medium to dark amber in the light. A good amount of lacing has been left behind.

Nose- A good amount of presence from the bottle but not much from the glass. Strong notes of raisins followed by brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon and brown bread from the bottle. The glass offers up a very clean aroma of raisins. Swirling doesn't reveal anymore than this.

Taste- Raisins on the front of the flavor profile with a slight bitterness (almost like prunes) which starts to creep in. Lots of cloves followed by some banana and cinnamon begin to take over. Notes of brown sugar and molasses which I wish would linger more but are actually quite sparse. At the moment this seems a little thin, almost watery. Next taste shows a lot more presence with strong notes of brown sugar and molasses but the cloves really push most aspects aside. A little bit of bandaid, light apple. Very well integrated, lots of balance. Pretty average for a St. Bernardus which is another way of saying that it's pretty good and solid beer. I do prefer my dubbels to be a little meatier and fleshier with tendencies toward chocolate, tobacco, and leather but this is not that kind of dubbel. Light red grape on the finish- almost to the point of grape juice.

Mouthfeel- Between light and medium bodied with a load of carbonation that isn't so overwhelming as to be a distraction. A mostly dry finish.

Drinkability- Very accessible but a little more subtle than I want it to be. 4 bucks is a great price for a Belgian of this caliber.

Overall- Solid beer but not nearly as good as Westmalle Dubbel. Westmalle Dubbel has quickly become the dubbel by which I judge all others. Still, worth a try. A definite must for clove lovers.

A-brown with a good tan head
S- banana is the smell to begin with, then a malt with some spices
T-carmel, spice with little to no warming, then it had a stong malt aftertaste then it finish with a dry feeling
M- creamy feeling from the carbonation

12oz bottle from St Bernardus mixed pack. Served in Goblet.

Looks like caramel. From above it looks like an ice cream float that has just a little ice cream fluid still on the top.

The smoke when opened has a very nice caramel smell with a hint of pepper.

Tastes dark and malty like abbey ale should. There is a little tobacco and maybe a touch of smoke. Subtle hop notes that are slightly lemon, copper but very, very light and not overdone. A little more spicy finish and it would be close to a marzen but with better mouth feel. This has an old taste to it that I like. I wonder if it is the 500 ft deep artesian water used that makes this brewery so special.

Mouth feel is somewhat viscous. Not watery. Fine bubble carbonation. The carbonation puts it in the outstanding dept.

Overall, this is very nice brown ale. Great brewery. If both were equally available, would I take this over a Leffe Bruin, no, but a fine beer all the same.

750 ml bottle was poured into a stemmed goblet.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger off white head that reduced to a thin layer. It is an amber brown color with no clarity and tiny bubbles can be seen coming up through the glass.

Smell: Caramel, spicy, yeasty esters, raisins, plums, bready malts, figs, plums, delicious aromas.

Taste: caramel and bready malts, dark fruits, spicy, and yeasty esters. Very tasty dubbel.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, chewy, low carbonation, medium bodied, and delicious.

Overall: As solid as a dubbel it gets. This brewery can't do anything wrong. Another great beer to add to the lineup.
