Saw this one, and picked up 2 bottles instantly. The bottle comes in a special tin casing, and the bottle appears similar to the standard Abt. 12. There are some special notations indicating it's not the regular 12.
The appearance is as good as it gets. Dark mahoganey with some red tones as light comes through. An off white head of fine bubbles comes ups aggresively, and as it fades it laces the glass really nicely. Not many beers that look better.
The smell is of raisens, plums, overly ripe fruit, molasses, and these smells become more readily apparent as it warms closer to room temp.
The taste is similiar to the regular Abt. 12, but with some differences. The hops are a little more apparent, as is the heat at the finish of each sip. Aside from that, there are incredible flavors of overly ripe fruit, plums, and incredible comlexity. Each sip brings another facet of this beer's personality out.
The mouthfeel has fine bubbles, and it gets better as the beer gets warmer.
The drinkability of this beer is excellent. I would be happy to have every beer I drink taste as good as this one.
This is just another excellent beer from one of the best breweries in the world. All of their beers I have been lucky enough to have is among the best I have had. I bought 2 bottles of this one with the intention of cellaring one right from the store. After tasting this one fresh- I am really, really looking forward to re-visiting this one in several years. I think it has all the right stuff to just get better with time.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Hazy copper body. Khaki head. Medium collar.
Smell - Oxidized. Cardboard, not sherry. Fruity malt. A bit of yeast.
Taste - Caramel. Some dark fruits. Oxidation kicks in shortly thereafter. Cardboard that doesn't improve it.
Mouthfeel - Medium body. Cardboard. Slick body.
Overall - Just too old. Not even as good as the regular St. Bernardus.
