Pours a hazy orange yellow. The bottle was at rest and decanted (at least 2oz left in bottle) but there is still a lot of clumping suspended yeast. A gentle pour produces a weak frothy white head. That doesn't stick around long, with a few strings of lace.
Aroma is very bready, due in part to the suspended yeast I'm sure. Bananas, a nice clove and spice with a bit of alcohol.
The taste has a lot going on. Coating syrup, orchard fruits, musty bread, heavy clove, a nice bitterness... and it goes on, far beyond my capability to specify.
Medium body, smooth feel and a dry finish.
A little disappointed in the appearance after all the great things I've heard about St. Bernardus. Still this is an excellent brew. Challenging to define, yet very pleasant in the moment.
