330ml bottle (BBE 290916) served into a Delirium Tremens tulip glass

Look: Slightly murky golden yellow - couple of fingers of white head which settles down fairly quickly leaving some lacing on the glass. No real surprises there.

Smell: Quite a 'bready' smell mixed up with many of the other smells you associate with Belgian beers: bananas, citrus, coriander and a hint of cloves too. Spice notes are fairly subdued.

Taste: Again, quite yeasty up front with the bread and citrus notes predominating. This is present to a lesser degree in the aftertaste which I found slightly dry with faint alcohol notes. Quite malty throughout - just how I like it.

Feel: Quite a 'full' feel - not excessively heavy, despite the relative lack of carbonation. Others have described it as 'creamy' - that's actually a pretty good way of describing it. Either way, it's eminently drinkable.

Overall: I've yet to find a St.Bernardus beer that I don't like - whilst this isn't quite in the same league as, say, the Abt 12, it's still about as good an example of a tripel as you'll find. Definitely worth the effort.

330ml bottle into oversized wine glass. best before "A 01 07 16", enjoyed on january 5, 2015

a: very opaque golden yellow topped with a finger and a half of foamy white head

s: banana, lemon, fresh bread, apricot, peach, mild spice notes

t: fruity up front (lemon, banana, apricot), with coriander, white pepper, honey, biscuit, and bread flavours following shortly after. malty sweet all around with a gentle bitterness at the end. maybe some hints of apples and pears

m: a very creamy medium body with soft, bubbly carbonation

o: an excellent belgian tripel. seems very textbook, which means it is delicious

Poured into a St. Bernardus glass.

Look: The body is a hazy, cloudy burnt yellow color under a white cap of foam. The head settles to a pretty even film across the top. Light watery lines of lacing stay on the glass for a while.

Aroma: Very malty and bread up front, coated with sweetness. Subtle notes of coriander, clove, and banana.

Taste: Much like the aroma, this beer is very sweet and bready. There's equal parts coriander, clove, and banana with a touch of bubblegum candy in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, silky, slightly dry.

Overall: A very delicious beer loaded with sweetness with a well-hidden 8.00% ABV.
