Appearance - pale gold, slightly hazy with quickly diminishing fine-bubbled white head.

Nose - slightly Flemish style sour smell like fresh straw in a dairy barn. Very malt forward with hints of almonds and sour cherries.

Taste - very mild and well-balanced sour element followed by a huge wave of malt and nutty flavors. Alcohol is very well integrated and not evident even at 10 ABV.

Overall - Awesome beer from Belgium; very full-bodied and yet quite refreshing. I want another growler.

Served in a tulip glass from a growler at 45 *f. Poured gently onto side and ended up with a huge 1 1/2in white head. Head subsided and stayed with about a 1/4 in layer. Highly carbonated and translucent gold/orange color.

Mainly citrus and malt were prevalent in the aroma with a hint of yeast.

Taste is good. Malt is the dominate flavor with slight hop notes towards the finish. Also, a sort of dry finish comes to light but it might be carbonation just overwhelming the taste. Noticeable yeast flavor towards the end. Very complex.

Mouth-feel was normal. Possibly lighter than what I expected.

Overall a good beer, however, not my favorite from my favorite breweries!!!

Poured a bottle obtained from a St. Bernardus mixed pack (I wish more Belgian breweries did this) into a goblet. A live pour, although dropping the bottle on the floor first probably didn't help matters, with a ton of white froth that settled out to a more reasonable level. The beer itself presents as a cloudy honey yellow, with an aroma of shortbread, medicinal honey, apples, pears, woody/spicy Belgian yeast a plenty. The taste was more assertive than the smell, with an unusual and interesting butterscotch chip backbone, vanilla brownie, some grape-like lager character, tobacco, candied citrus rind, rosewater, a sweetish nuttiness, and sour green fruit all revealing themselves in a bit of a hodgepodge. Resembles its stablemate Watou Tripel in being on the sweet side for the style, although this one does have more heft in terms of both aromatic alcohol presence and a richer malt character. A touch thicker than other tripels and less fizzy as well. Nevertheless finishes on the dry side despite the initial sweetness, producing a tannic puckering effect on the mouth and thrusting some woody and gooseberry-like hops out there near the end. I like to compare my tasting notes to those of Micheal Jackson whenever possible, both as a reality check and a form of hero worship. In Great Beers of Belgium, he's got this one down as "vanilla, cookies, and sesame seeds, with a tangerine-like finish". I guess I did alright.

A: Amazing dark golden color. Poured yeast into the bottle along with the beer. It has a dark, golden, almost amber hue which is clouded by yeast. Excellent lacing, and creamy head that lasted a good while.

S: Not the best smelling tripel, and not many characteristics here. Faint hints of esters from the Belgian yeast, and slight cherries. Sweet fruity aroma.

T: Up front very malty sweet, with a little boozy aftertaste. The ABV is very well hidden by the sweetness, and there are some sweet fruits on the back end. Some raisens, and possibly some brown sugar flavor as well.

M: VERY creamy. This is the thickest tripel I've had. It almost feels like sweet cream with the sweetness of the beer and the creamy head (no homo).

O: A very good tripel, although not the best. I prefer a Westmalle or Rochefort over this due to the mouth feel, but that's extremely subjective on my part. Overall a good example of a tripel.

very drinkable tripel. lot of flavor and a mellow 8 percent. good amt of citrus, grape, apple flavors. lot of carbonation and mellow spicy yeast notes. all melded together perfectly, very elegant drink. not a very harsh tripel at all, while still being complex and interesting

Hazy amber color with one finger aired head with medium retention and leaving laces.
Nice smooth aroma, less straightforward then most Tripels. Notes of biscuit malt, light orange sourness, spices, Belgian yeast and caramel.
Very complex flavor with notes of spices, caramel, green apples, just a bit of Cointreau, Belgian yeast, cloves and nutmeg, sour strawberries, apricot, pears, pineapple, banana, wheat, honey and herbal hops. And you can go on and on. Dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness superior to most Tripels.
Medium body with an appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 8% abv is hidden in its sweet flavors.
Great complex Tripel, quite elegant, that’s how a Tripel should taste like. No sharp edges as most Tripels, even though I did leave this to mature for quite a while.

Beautiful poor, with a one finger white head. Retention is good, and lacing is good. Brew is cloudy, and golden straw-colored. I left the yeast in the bottle.

Bright, yeasty and bready aroma at fridge temp. Banana, clove, citrus.

Classic tripel flavor. A little flat, and spicy, but strong notes of wheat, clove and spices, and light citrus and banana. Belgian yeast and mineral water.

Thick and Bready mouthfeel. Fairly lively, no sting or alcohol. Almost chewy like a stout, even cold.

This is an excellent Belgian tripel. Very traditional, relatively complex, extremely smooth. One of the better versions I have had, and another great beer from this brewery.

on tap at the bull and bush, they have really put in a lot of guest taps recently, including a lot of higher end belgian stuff, very cool. this is one of the classics, a great example of the style, and one of my personal favorites because of its relative lack of sweetness compared to its peers. hazy and very pale straw in color, with a smaller head than i was hoping for, but still close to an inch of lasting white airy foam. it smells floral from the yeast, like little white and purple meadow flowers, and a rather high dose of oats along with the wheat and barley in the grain bill. lots of body and just a touch of residual sugar. long grainy start turns into a dry yeasty finish, classic belgian yeast fruit esters pop all over the place, and prickly carbonation makes 8% abv feel dangerously light. its a classic recipe, a classic yeast strain, and a real artisan product that is rooted in tradition and timeless in flavor. this is one of my favorites because of its dryness. it doesnt sacrifice any body to get there either. light fruitiness is left on the tongue after the swallow, and a 750ml of this would not be too much for me in a sitting.

Along with duvet and chimay blue / white these beers are so top of their game that I really rate them all the same 4.75.

A: Perfect pour. Deserves a chalice or a tulip. Great head and retention. Inviting.

S: Pear prune dates with wine -like tartness and liquor like aromas. And there's more to smell and taste: Mineral Fruit Ripe Wood Church Incense.
T: Follows the smell, with more intensity, sugar, citrus peel, chocolate, cherry, spice, flowers, pepper, smoke. Champagne like.
MF: Creamy, with a wine-like body and finish. Leaving you happy with sweet but balanced fruit.

Rich and succulent, must try

A - Poured into a Chimay chalice. The head rises up exceptionally high when poured slowly into the middle of the glass. It recedes fairly slowly, leaving great lacing on the glass. The beer is a golden straw color, and quite hazy. Lots of visible carbonation.

S - Fruitiness of the yeast up front, with an underlying bready malt character and a hint of alcohol.

T - Follows the nose with strong flavors, but still on the lighter, airier side. Nothing heavy here. Slight banana, little spice up front. The malt kicks in a little bit later with something of a rounded sourdough bread flavor. This is the flavor that I associate with abbey tripels, but it's lighter here, which I like. Touch of alcohol on the finish.

M - Beautifully soft. No astringency. No prickly carbonation. Just a hint of dryness, but it's actually quite refreshing and finishes fairly clean.

O - Probably my favorite tripel thus far. I'm finding that I prefer dubbels and quads, but this one is right up there. Highly recommend. Consumed at cellar temp + about 15 minutes sitting at room temp before opening.

Presentation: 330mL brown bottle, served in an 5 Rabbit Cervecería tulip.

Appearance: Deep, cloudy, dark yellow color. It develops a thick, two finger white head and leaves lots of lacing that sticks to the whole glass and slowly slides away.

Smell: It has a burning fruity alcohol scent.

Taste: The malt sweetness is dominant. There are some herbal, spicy notes in the background and a good alcohol kick at the end that reminds you this is packing an 8% ABV.

Mouthfeel: There's a fair amount of carbonation. It feels creamy and smooth on the palate, even a bit refreshing.

Overall: A very interesting beer all the way through. Despite the high ABV it remains mellow and balanced, which makes for a very good experience. No wonder this is one of the best rated Tripels out there.

Poured bottle into St Bernardus glass to consume by 10/28/16

A-Pours hazy golden with a 1 1/2 white head. Great lacing.

S-Aroma is fruity with citrus some grass, typical belgian yeast spice notes, sweet malt.

T-Taste is sweet malt with a light bitterness and spices, finish is dry and crisp.

M-Mouthfeel is well balanced being smooth at the beginning and slight bitter at the end, nice oily with a lively carbonation.

O-Overall a great tripel, hides the ABV well, a must try.

Pours a hazy golden apricot with a billowing ivory head that slowly dissipates, leaving spotty lacing.

Pear, green apple, bruised apple, coriander, and peach dominate the aroma. Huge yeast esters! Bubblegum surfaces late.

Straw, fairly dry character and surprisingly grassy notes underlie the green apple and pear notes that form the base of the flavor. Peach and pear add complexity, along with a peppery, bitter finish that's almost phenolic.

Body is on the full side, with spritzy carbonation, and modest alcohol warmth.

More bitter than expected. The estery profile is very complex, and the peppery finish is nice, but it tends to overwhelm.

Poured from a small bottle into a Leffe chalice. Nearly perfect level of carbonation as an easy pour produces two fingers of dense head that lasts and lasts. The beer is dark gold in color and has reasonably good clarity. The nose has lots of fruity esters and spicy phenols, giving notes of banana, clove, lemon, allspice, and puff pastry.

Medium-full body with spicy-sweet flavor and wonderfully balanced profile. Nice bready malt up front blasts you with a hearty sweetness, then citrus and hops meld seamlessly into the sweetness and provide accenting fruity sweetness and balancing spice. Not bitter at all, although it seems dry and the high carbonation does open the palate and intensify the flavors. No booziness at all, but it certainly warms you up.

Tripels are not my favorite style at all (I prefer Dubbels and Quads), but occasionally I do like to try styles I don't ordinarily seek out. I'm very glad I tried this one. I should probably do a side-by-side with Westmalle and La Fin du Monde, two other Tripels I think very highly of.

Pours a golden honey color with a head that quickly disappears.

Smells of tropical fruit, spicy phenols

Tastes of tropical fruit, banana, has that definite Belgian yeast spiciness with a firm bitterness, tastes f honey but not too sweet and not boozy at all.

Highly carbonated but very smooth mouthfeel, easy drinking for its higher abv

Overall a great tripel!

Bright glowing honey-gold color. Surprisingly small white head fades quickly to barely anything. Not all the yeast is poured in but some discernible tiny suspended chunks are visible. Aroma is phenolic with clove, flowery, bubblegummy, and fruity with orange, lemon, cherry, and apple cider. Sweet drippy maltiness, bready, toffee, and butterscotch-like. Nice and soft, yet certainly substantial. Flavors are sugar cookie dough, peppery spice, lemon, floral, alcohol, and light candied caramel. Nice slick, semi-syrupy/viscous softly coating texture. Body is a full, frothy medium. A heavy kind of medium. Very fine, softly fizzy carbonation, and well disguised bitterness and dryness elongated throughout the finish.

Poured into a pint glass from a bottle dated to be consumed before October 28th, 2016.

App: Light orange in the middle expanding out to the sides into a hay-like yellow. Hazy. Pours a nice 3 finger head, tight and fluffy, and pale white.

Smell: Good funkiness. Spicy citrusness of lemon and pepper. Grassy and herbal. More like in the way you might dump the bag of grass after mowing, the smell after a couple days waiting for pick up on the street. Esters shine through with a strong banana smell. Pineapple in there too. Various other fruits.

Taste: Pineapple and banana with a lemon-pepper spice evolving quickly to a bitter funk at the end. Almost seems like a big saision. Pale malts give a good base, with a refreshing hopiness, Belgian yeast shining through brilliantly to deliver a fruity funkiness.

Overall just a great Tripel. Stands with the best of them but does quite enough to stand out from the rest of them. From there, it's just a matter of taste.

A-Amber-orange body. Held to light the body is yolky with lively brown sediment freckling the brew. This yeast dusts the beer beautifully. Gargantuan soapy white head. Great retention. Sudsy bubbly lace. I feel like I should throw dollar bills at my glass for this beautiful show.

S-Soap. Clean. Orange. Lemon. Apricot and pineapple jellies. Malts. Banana. Pear.

T-Very grainy. Earthy. Grassy. Soapy. Clean. Sweet corn syrup. Aforementioned fruits listed in the smell give encore performances. Apple jam. Clear alcohol. Banana chips. Honey aftertaste.

M-Medium low body with medium tendencies. The needle teeters on the body scale, more towards the low. Medium to heavy full on carbonation. Wow! So lively it burns, even pricks every taste bud. The live yeast I swear bubbles and multiplies, foams, on the tongue. Extremely activated yeast. Said yeast is sour and dries the palate, yet leaves a lubrication to make tongue feel "wet" and refreshed. That weird duality of feel that only beer can pull off. Gets sticky with time.

O-A world class brew. For me St. Bernardus Tripel is an acquired taste, but that doesn't deter from it's greatness. Too clean and medicinal on the smell and taste, like my glass had the residue of dish washing liquid in it or something. But the yeast is a treat. It gives the beer a beautiful look, unique taste and produces super foam to swish around leaving you enjoying every last bubble, every last drop. Belgium is the mecca of beer.

A: Translucent golden straw color with a white foamy head.

S: Some orange undertones with cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg in the nose.

T: Lots of orange with a nice compliment of cardamom and nutmeg.

M: Smooth for a tripel and medium-light, bodied. Almost foamy.

O: Not their best beer, but certainly not their worst, and an excellent example of the style. Very tasty.

Me impressionei com essa tripel. Eu estava esperando menos e encontrei um grande cerveja. Seu excessivo amargor me agradou e eu gostei de sua rusticidade. Acredito que ela seja uma respeitável tripel, que agrega muito valor para a cervejaria St. Bernardus.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe website (£2.69):
Orange/amber with 0.5cm of tiny white bubbles and plenty of visible carbonation. Head retention is good considering the strength & it holds for a few minutes.

Lively & fruity as well with some orange and citrus notes on top of an apple and grape base. Naturally the beer is quite sweet as a result of the fruits and comes with some sugar and some peppery spice too with alcohol well hidden.

Sweet with orange & citrus plus some grapes and a little Belgian yeast on top of some banana too although this is quite light and barely detectable at first. There is a floral, almost perfume like taste that starts to come through alongside some tropical fruits and some peppery spice.

Crisp and lively with plenty of carbonation and a medium body that is quite sweet and dry, particularly towards the end of the beer. The beer had a great balance to it with the fruits all coming together well to completely hide the alcohol in the beer.

One that I quite enjoyed and one that despite the strength went down quite easily thanks to the good balance between fruits and the lively carbonation. I was expecting the beer to be a good one and it didn't disappoint and despite the fact the finish was a dry one.

A-Pours a hazy orange/yellow hybrid. Head is big, doughy and fluffy. Thick, sporadic lacing.

S-Aroma is pleasant. I am usually far from enamored with Tripels, especially in the aroma. It's rich with Belgian yeast, spice and fruit but I find the yeast to be far less overpowering than many of the style. It's pretty nice.

T-Again, the yeast doesn't come on too strong and there is a bunch of juicy fruit (peach, apple, pear). Light spiciness. He best part of the flavor (which I don't find in most of the style)'is a fairly robust, sweet, crackery maltiness. It's the best part.

M-Quite drinkable. I will attribute most of that to its relatively low ABV for the style. Softer carbonation.

O/D-One of the better Tripels I have tried. I shouldn't be surprised, it's a classic for those who lose the style. The depth of the beer's maltiness was by far the biggest takeaway for me.

A - Bright orange/yellow, no clarity, lots of head and sticky lace left all over the glass. Yes, exactly like a Tripel should look like

O - This brew grew on me as I drank it. By the end, I am a believer.

Poured into a St. Bernardus goblet: Thick white foamy head that faded slowly into a thick white top and sticky lacing over a cloudy orangish liquid with noticeable yeasties settling to the bottom. Smells like a triple should with nothing in particular standing out: yeast esters/tropical fruit and perfectly balanced hops and malt. Tastes like banana kiwi, citrus, slightly more bitter than sweet (which is good!), slightly spicy. It's soft and fuzzy, like a delicious pillow in your mouth (which is also a good thing!). Better than some trapist triples. Overall, a fantastic beverage from a fantastic brewery.

Got this from Discount Drinks in Farmington Hills. Served it in a snifter.

A: Pours a rich golden honey color, which is cloudy and bubbly, has a half inch off white head that sticks around for a bit and then dissipates to a thin white layer with some moderate ring lace.

S: Smells of grapes, apples, bananas, yeast, malts, wheat. A very pleasant aroma.

T: Quite sweet with a slight dryness to it. Tastes of grapes, yeast, malts, honey, spices, has a little twinge to it, a bit of hops and a bit of alcohol.

M: Medium bodied with medium amounts of carbonation. Well balanced.

O: Overall, this was dog gone good. An excellent example of a tripel but it was quite pricey.
