Very nice Tripel. Not sure worth what I paid at my local beer store, but very nice indeed. Great, but only at the right price. Think I paid about 13 bucks for a bottle listed at 1 pint, 9.4 oz.

Not too different from a good pilsner. This does not support the prestige or justify value.

Appearance: Poured with a solid finger of head that retained exceptionally well and left behind some lacing. The body is an amber blonde colour that boasts a large volume of carbonation. As a side note, the bottle overflowed with carbonation upon opening, an issue I've had in the past with some Belgian style beer.

Smell: The is the first Trappist style where the yeast wasn't up front. Instead grainy barley take centre stage with the yeast that brings forward pear, mild citrus and slight touches of apricot and cloves. Warming helps bring out the yeast elements, but it doesn't quite overcome the grain.

Taste: Starts with mild grain with touches of berry and citrus and then a wallop of pear that has a somehow normal mild sourness to it as the other fruit aspects join it in the background. It then ends with a slight spicy touch.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation is spot on, helping out the entire beer with a beautiful foaminess. What's odd is the transitioning from mild sweet to odd sour note to slight spicy. That being said, the mixed mild aftertaste that doesn't cling at all earns back for it quite a bit.

Drinkability: It hides it high ABV exceptionally well and it also settles down and comes across as surprisingly light for a Tripel. While I wouldn't call it a rough ride by any means, I wouldn't say it's the smoothest guy on the block, but mainly just do the transitioning.

Final Thoughts: All in all, it's a solid Tripel. Part of me likes how more of the malt and grainy aspects come forward, but doesn't abandoned it's fruity yeast, and simplifies. Part of me sees it as a bit tamer then expected. Two thumbs up still despite this, mainly because the beer still has it pretty all together.
