Extremely faithful rendition of the style from one of the more widely known Belgian breweries. Golden and bubbly, lots of carbonation and frothy head. Banana, bread, lemon / zest on the nose. It's at 8% ABV and while in appropriate range for a tripel, I like mine at another 1-2% or so.

This one just doesn't get me crankin' like Westmalle or Tripel Karmeleit. There's some grainyness and alcohol that push through on the nose/palate a little too forcefully. It's dull gold body just doesn't pop like the competition. The nose has enough of those classic banana/pear/lemon esters and a definite vein of spicy, if hinting at plasticky, phenols. Probably the best part of the beer, though, again, it just doesn't come together quite as harmoniously as some other options. Overall, vague though it may sound, this one lacks a certain depth/richness that I've experienced elsewhere in the style. Not a terrible brew, but can't imagine reaching for this over some other standard bearers.

750ml bottle, medium rocks glass.

Dark gold with a very nice, thick tight-bubbled head. The head is long lasting and just off-white in color. The looks are a very good start.

Subtle aromas of banana phenols, chalky yeast, thin sugary sweetness.

Bright flavors. Light fruit, spices, sharp Belgian yeast, and an evenly bitter finish. Fruity alcohol as it warms.

Aggressive carbonation that delivers the flavors to ripple up the tongue.

The aroma is a little tame, but this is a very tasty beer. I'm glad I'm giving Tripels another chance. Everything is in balance here and the quality is evident.

The beer pours a nice clean, white head that dissipates at a moderate pace. The beer itself is a clear medium gold color that looks very nice. I'm sure if the beer ever turned solid, it'd be worth something.

The smell is not very complex but it is very good. The beer has some nice fruity notes and the Belgian sugar makes a nice and subtle appearance. The hops have a nice orange citrus note to it but it isn't very strong and only detectable enough to make the yeast notes smell like fruits.

The taste is very interesting because it is actually a bit different from the smell. The taste still has the fruity smells and the light hop presence. However, the sweet and caramel malt notes come out a little bit more and make the profile a bit more complex. A slight alcohol note is also there but not much and doesn't detract from anything.

The feel is pretty smooth, if not a little thick. The beer is heavy bodied and the carbonation is a nice and biting. Not a bad feeling and fairly good experience.

Overall, a nice and not overly hoppy Tripel. Pretty good and one of the better ones that I've had from a foreign brewer.

I'm a huge fan of the St. B dubbel and quad, but I had never tried their tripel. I tried the Karmeliet for the first time two weeks ago, and I think this does not quite measure up. It had a great look and aroma, but the finish had a slight tang/sour taste to it that was a drawback. I still overall enjoyed it, but this is a third-place finisher in my rank of the St. B's dubbel/tripel/quad.

would of given a five, but the second one I have had about a year apart and I don't care for the dark stuff floating in both bottles I have had. That having been mention.... Poured a beautiful hazy yellow-orange colour into my trappist chalice. Taste was wonderfully full of Chiffon Cake, Raw bread dough, and slight of Baked potato. Has just the right amount of carbonation for a perfect mouth feel. I have had a handful of Triples and have revisited this sense i seem to be on a abbey ale\trappist kick of late and will likely try again in the future. ( i had purchased it only for the glass that came with it and the fact that it included a qaud an dubbel as well :D) I am most impressed with this beer and would recommend it as THE first beer to try when getting into trappist beers.

Ok, I'll keep the speech short and sweet. A big milestone for me, review number 2,500. I'd like to thank beer advocate for an amazing web site, by far the greatest beer related, and among my top 5 sites period. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 6.25 years on this site.

Also a huge thanks to my in person trader, the legendary woodychandler, whose beers make up, I would estimate, roughly 12% or so of the beers I have reviewed. And lastly the people on this site, most of whom are great people and a joy to interact with. (wipes small tear from eye).
Ok, onto the beer.
Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a dark golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of mild fruits, malts. Taste is fruits, spices, pepper in particular, alcohol is present, some sweetness as well. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall an enjoyable beer, but I was expecting more, consider me underwhelmed.

Served chilled and poured in a tulip.

Pours hazy, soft golden. Modest head that thins off.

Taste is yeast-driven, some maltiness lingering afterwards. A hint of sweetness in the taste, but deceptive....lots at the front of the tongue, but it doesn't transfer to the rest fo the mouth. I find this a very different progression from other Tripels, which makes it a more interesting beer. Dryness and resins kick in about a minute later.

Very nice. My St. Bernardus pick....'the green one'.

Pours a hazy orange color, light dissipating head. Good spiced smell and taste. Typical carbonation for a Belgian, really nice mouthfeel. Really solid beer

Pours a hazy amberish under a thin (1/8-inch) white head which leaves little lace. Fruity aroma. Malty with sweet herbs and alcohol taste. Yeasty finish.

L- pours a light yellow with 2 inch forming head.
S - grass, lemons, pear, smells creamy
T - So this is not at all my favorite style of beer but this is definitely a creamy triple - completely covered alcohol and really smooth. I get banana bread with heavy creamer baked into the little noted yeast. This is not what I would call a classic belgian triple because it's so good!
F - Like mentioned above, this is creamy good, great balance
O - this may have opened my eyes to the style I never thought I could enjoy. a very good beer

Pours golden amber into a snifter wit an off white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Nose is floral with honey and Belgian yeast. Taste follows suit with complex estery floral flavors, some orange and honer sweet malt. Finished dry with a slight warming in the finish. Really nice.

The beer has a golden color with a bit of amber and the head is white and voluminous. Strong floral scent from the hops. In the taste, these floral notes are accompagnied with a caramel-like sweetness. A well-balanced and very tasty Tripel.

11.2 ounce bottle poured into a goblet

A: Nice creamy white head, sunset orange color, cloudy, some decent carbonation.

A: Belgian yeast, spice, fruity sweetness like figs, dates, there is some earthy herbal aromas on the backend, very complex, smells really good.

T: Belgian yeast aromas up front, sweet fruits like figs and dates, clove, spice, earthy herbal flavors, slight bitterness at the end, very tasty.

M: Medium mouthfeel with a slight dry bitter finish.

O: Very good, I'm impressed, nice creamy mouthfeel, great complexity on the flavor, nice blend of different notes of fruit and earthy herbal flavors, definitely a keeper, one I will definitely purchase and enjoy in the future.

12 oz bottle, poured into a goblet

Appearance: Pours a very pretty, completely opaque, golden, straw color, with two fingers of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Very aromatic, with lots of bready, toasted malt, imparting notes of freshly baked French baguettes or English muffins. There are also lots of funky, Belgian yeast, which imparts notes of citrus, such as lemon zest, orange zest, pith, grapefruit, as well as spices of coriander, white pepper, and parsley. I also get some aromas of candied sugar and honey-suckle. Smells very, very nice and inviting.

Taste: Delicious! Strong flavors of toasted malt, candied sugar-like sweetness up front, followed by funky, Belgian yeast, which imparts notes of citrus, such as lemon zest, orange zest, pith, grapefruit, as well as spices of coriander, white pepper, and parsley. Absolutely delicious!

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and nicely effervescent as there is quite a bit of carbonation. With an ABV of 8%, there is just a hint of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is a delicious triple. Great flavors in a seriously good quaff. Very highly recommended!

Pours from the bottle a cloudy peach with a finger of white head. Smells of yeast and spices with some fruit. Tastes of banana, coriander, some cloves and a floral finish. The mouth is medium and while it's well carbonated, the aftertaste is allowed to linger nicely. While there are definite differences between the various Belgian tripels, this is a quintessential representation of the style.

330ml bottle, poured into La Chouffe tulip.

A: Palest shade of amber, hazy, initial large head morphed into a lid of film.

S: Fruity, yeast, phenol, slight citrus.

T: Phenol, sharp ripe fruits, tangerine, wheaty. Fairly sweet for a Tripel.

M: Smooth, reasonably crisp without a great deal of carbonation, minimal coarse edge from the booze.

O: A nice Tripel, lower in alcohol and bitterness than others, there is no such thing as a session Tripel, but two or three wouldn’t get you in trouble.

Bought this 330ml bottle from Bangkok, Thailand and took it back to Hong Kong in my suitcase. It has a best before date of 7th August 2016 and was poured into a Chimay goblet.

Appearance: The beer poured a hazy murky dark gold colour with one finger creamy white head that has great retention but leaves a nice set of stringy lacing.

Aroma: Mainly floral and citrus lemon and lime aromas along with some bready buscuit malt.

Taste: Sweet fruity pear and some caramelised banana tastes, maybe even banana bread. The bready malts come through and the finish is slightly bitter and peppery.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, medium to high carbonation and somewhat dry.

Overall: This is a pretty good tripel but not my favourite. I still prefer the La Trappe and Westmalle versions more as this was less fruity overall.

Poured into tulip.
Pours murky amber beer with thin white head, quickly runs to some bubbles on a surface. Good carbonation. Smell of coriander, citrus, alcohol hues, yeasts, banana. Taste is spicy, fruity and very good for tripel, dry finish, yeasty notes.

11.2 oz bottle poured into a RR “tion” glass. Best by date of 12-06-16. Sipped on while listening to Everybody Knows this is Nowhere.

Ap: Like some other St. Bernardus beers the beer is fizzing out as soon as I crack the cap. Huge billowy white head atop an effervescent golden body. Like all well done triples, this is an excellent looking beer with gorgeous lacing.

Ar: Floral fruit esters, soft citrus flesh and a gentle hop bouquet and spicy phenols. Smells a bit more malty and “breadier” as compared to something like the Westmalle Triple. Also, the hop presence is more noticeable and the yeast profile more subdued.

T: Starts right up front with that sweet, oxidized apple juice and pear character I get from so many triples. The yeast profile is not as spicy either (mild white pepper) and lends more of a perfume like floral character that lets the hops stick out a bit more. Bitterness and alcoholic bite are kept in check. Finish is sweet bread.

Mf: Has that excellent soft effervescence with a dry cleansing finish that I love in this style. #foodbeer. Not as hot or sweet as something like Westmalle.

Overall: Not sure if the St. Bernardus Triple is as well regarded as the Westmalle version or others but I like this one as much if not more in that it’s a much more balanced beer and easier to drink. Not too sweet, dry and boozy. Lighter with a more floral character in place of the usual banana/clove yeast profile. Think of it more as a “streamlined” triple.

Hazy golden colour, good head, some laceand sediments. Floral aroma, with some spices and fruits, coriander, cloves, dough, sugar. Medium to full body, sticky and oily palate. Taste is sweet, with cloves and coriander too, some toffee, candy, with a good alcoholic finish.

Very good beer. Not my all time favorite, but very good. This beer is better than Pior 8, but not by a long shot. Good head Amber color. Complex flavors of a good Tripel.

Pours a nice golden color with a huge white head. The head sticks around for some time, and there seems to be a lot of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass.

A lot going on in the smell. Floral, citrus, and pepper dominate. This is by far the strongest scented trip I have tried, not many beers have this much going on.

Starts out with a lot of citrus up front, mainly orange. There is a strong pepper backing to it, and what seems to be some Belgian candy sugar. Leaves a lingering spicy note on the tongue at the finish.

No complaints on the feel, nice and full like the style should be.

Overall one of the better triples I have had, and no doubt this is an authentic Belgian beer. It is fruity and spicy, with a nice depth of flavor. Worth trying if you want to experience an authentic triple.
