This one is the original. They have a really cool beer list, and a great food menu. There is a cheap and delicious happy hour menu. We had walleye balls, which were great. The decor and woodwork is outstanding. Any person would be proud of owning/operating a space like that.

Huge improvement over Sgt.Preston's, which was here in the past. Good riddance to yet another vomit soaked college bar. Atmosphere is good, only knock is when there is entertainment, it can be hard to stop. With 40+ taps, the selection is awesome. The selection can be a little static, but at any point in time I can find new brews, and beers of any style. The food is simple, and doesn't break new ground, but it tastes good and the price is right. THB on the same corner makes 7 corners a competitive market, but this is a good place.

Decent place that has some good potential. I love the atmosphere - classic long oak bar, very nice dark pub feel inside, no TVs, kind of reminds me of a North Woods hunting lodge or ski chalet. The side rooms have a muted artsy feel that I like. One of my favorite bars in terms of atmosphere and one of the few bars that I can cozy up to by myself.
The selection is good, not extremely impressive, but solid, with lots of local and regional beers from Harriet, Fulton, Bells, Founders, Surly, Tyranena, Central Waters, etc., and several from other parts of the country like Stone, Alaskan, and a few Belgians. Nothing out of ordinary, mostly standard offerings, but a nice wide variety. The beers are served fresh and in clean glassware. No complaints there.
Their main weakness is that the service ranges from average to bad. On a normal day, they serve at a medium slow pace, even if business is sparse. I just always feel like I'm waiting longer than I need for everything. I also had one of my personal worst bar service experiences of my life at the Surly Five release party. Several bartenders were behind the bar moving about as slow as you can imagine while the place was packed and hopping. Patrons were annoyed, obviously, as it took forever to get a drink, but no one was being obnoxious or anything like that. Bartenders started being rude to customers and muttering nasty comments under their breath. You never EVER do this to your customers. The rudest, most obnoxious customer needs to be treated with respect and class, even if they are being kicked out.
The food is pretty good pub fare with reasonable prices. The fish and chips was delicious and the buttermilk fried chicken wings were good as well.
Overall, the place is pretty good and has the potential to become one of the premier beer establishments in the Twin Cities.

Republic is an excellent recent addition to the Twin Cities beer scene. It has a classic beer bar atmosphere with a nice long bar, intricate stained glass work, and large dead animals hanging on the walls. It also has one of the best patios around. The service at the bar is some of the most knowledgeable beer wise I've come across anywhere. They not only know the beers they serve well, but they know craft beer as a whole well. They also know beer and food pairings. More importantly they are willing to share their knowledge in a friendly, respectful manner. The service on the patio is some of the slowest I've encountered anywhere. It has taken up to twenty minutes for me to get a single beer on the patio. Last time I was there my group left after waiting fifteen minutes without any of the three servers acknowledging us. The food is top notch. The local sausages are amazing. The burgers are good too, and a great bargain at $5 during happy hours. As for the beer, they carry a wide variety of styles from mostly local breweries. I would say they have one of the best selections of local breweries in the Twin Cities. The only complaint I have about their beer selection is that it doesn't change very often. This is something that usually causes me to visit places less frequently, but the selection at Republic is so well chosen that I still go their often during none patio season. If I'm in the area and the weather is nice, however, I'll most certainly be across the street on Town Hall's patio.
