Brewed by:
El Segundo Brewing Company
California, United States | website

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.20%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Two-row malt, meet Nelson Sauvin and Citra. Fast friends indeed. As sleek as a 9% DIPA can be with the sharp hop tone of lemon peels filled in by orange marmalade and just utter dankness. And you thought those tankers off-shore were just unloading crude...

Brewed with 2-row malt, Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops.

22 oz. bomber purchased at Hacienda Beverages (Brea).

Bottled on 22-Nov-13. Poured into Firestone Walker pint glass on 19-Feb-14.

For a DIPA that's about 3 months old, I'm surprised at how refreshing and fruity this is. Full of juicy grapefruit and orange peel aromas and in flavor. I won't repeat what other BA's have reviewed here. The finish is a bit too hop bitter for my taste, so I'm only assuming a fresh batch would blow my mind.

I'm proud of yet another local-brewed IPA. Looking forward to the next batch and hopefully will hit shelves as soon after its brewed this time.

This is not for the timid beer drinker. Must have some experience in big DIPA's. This beer is exactly as it means to be, a tanker of hops!! With a blast of hops and a meaty malt backbone to back-up the 9.2 abv this beer promises to dry-dock your steamboat for sure. Love Life, Drink Fresh!!

22 oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a medium frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet melon and tropical fruity hops and some caramel malts.

The flavor is sweet melons and caramel malt with a big piney hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice fruity piney DIPA.

Appearance golden hue with some tinge of orange. Smell is lemon peel, citrus juice. Taste is clean fresh upfront, openjng to a bigger hop profile and finsishing with a balanced juicy lemon rind and touch of pine. Pair with spicy bbq or indian food

Smooth DIPA. Lots of citrus with minimal malt backbone. Very drinkable.

Golden orange. Nice head with quick dissipation. Floral, perfumy, dank nose. Taste is very mildly "hot" but not overwhelmingly so. Good bitterness, but there's something about the dank or perfumy qualities of the hop profile that takes this beer down a notch in my book.

Fantastic beer. Bubblegum citrus and white grapes. As advertised obviously with Citra meets Nelson. I wish the power of three were added with Simcoe, but hey! Beggars can't be choosers.

The beer was bottled on May 16, 2015. Consumed June 2nd. As fresh as it's going to get. This is a highly hopped beer with a high dose of sweet malt to add. Wish there was a wee bit less of the malt. One bomber might not put you out, but doesn't leave you wanting more of it after 22oz is consumed. Refreshing, clean and crisp isn't the term I'd use. Resinous hop fix juicy fruit is how I'd describe it.

This specimen is very good. From memory, this was "cleaner" on tap a year or so ago.

Recommended.
