“Behemoth” is a term not to be used lightly, for it’s reserved for the things in life that truly are monstrous. So when we tell you that Power Plant Triple India Pale Ale is a behemoth of a beer, you can rest assured that we are not mincing words. The hop cocktail is designed to overwhelm your senses, resulting in aromatics that challenge even the most refined of noses to distinguish a single note. Yes, Power Plant is as majestic as it is mysterious. And like an untamed beast in the wild, don’t let this one sneak up on you, lest ye be #PowerPlanted…

1/19/2024 Batch! Sweet and piney tropical hoppy, slightly malty, blueberry, and an orange citrus, slightly boozy nose on this one! Taste follows with a sweet malty and hoppy, and a piney-dank bitter finish. Whoa! This is better than I was expecting! For a triple, this is very crisp and clean! As it warms, that piney bitter bite comes out more, but it is pretty balanced...and, 11.1% ABV!?!? This holds onto and distributes this bigboi ABV in such a way that it not overwhelming at all. So impressed! This is great!

Poured from 16 oz. can, two+-finger head. Look of a typical IPA but the nose is different! Piney notes for sure, but not as 'in your face' Goes down well for a high-ABV, fairly typical of the style but you are not hit with the alcohol burn at all. While it does linger on the back of the tongue, it's not overwhelming or cloying. 2 of these will get you where you want to go for sure, but without felling like you just put down an 11%er.

Picked up a single 16 oz can on 3-11-22 from the Craft Beer Hop Stop cooler for $4.74. Canned 1-27-22; consumed 3-13-22.

Beer poured golden orange with a nice white head with the original pour.

Nose is very fresh blast of citrus and herbal hops with a touch of tropical.

Taste is a large malt base that provides the canvas for a blast of orange, pine, and grapefruit. Finishes with a very nice strong pine bitterness; 8/10 on my scale.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and very smooth.

Overall an excellent west coast IPA that is expertly scaled up and well executed. El Segundo is one of my favorites that produce this style. Recommended!

On tap in a pint glass. The looks are the real star here. Crystal clear, golden color. No chill haze. Continuous chain of fine carbonation rising. A bit less than 1 finger creamy white head that is persistent. The most beautiful lacing, ever; it covers the glass. I don't believe an improvement over the look is possible. Smell and taste are nice and hoppy/fruity while balanced with malt. For a triple this one has little or no hint of the 11%+ ABV. Very drinkable. Clean finish with body on the heavy side, as expected for a triple. I would have guessed this was more like a II IPA than a III.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass

A: Pours golden amber with a frothy cream white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.

S: Mix of tropical and stone fruit with ripe citrus, resinous pine, floral notes, crackery biscuity malt, and caramel honey sweetness.

T: Tropical and stone fruit, mango, peach, passion fruit, and apricot, citrus, lemon, grapefruit, and orange, strong underlying resinous pine, floral notes, faint hints of bubble gum, crackery biscuity malt, and caramel honey sweetness.

M: Just a bit on the fuller side of medium body, moderately lively carbonation, faint alcohol warmth.

O: A friend highly recommend this one, saying that it's up there with a certain beer from Santa Rosa that comes out around this time, so I had to see what's up.
Super clean monster of a TIPA. Dangerously drinkable for it's size. Hits all the marks you'd want in a West Coast IPA, then cranks it up to 11. Hard to compare this to the legend that is PtY, so I'll just say if you can't get your hands on that, this is a damn good second choice.

Thanks for putting this on my radar, Shane and Chris!

A clear light or with a dense, white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is gorgeous with a rich, ripe hop character, dripping with pine, grapefruit, candied orange, stone fruit, and just a hint of warmth. Minimal malt character. The palate opens ridiculously smooth, creamy and oily , dripping with hop resin with palate coating warmth, pine, grapefruit, floral honey, citrus peel. This is followed by an incredibly smooth mid-palate, creamy, soft and just beautiful, where fruity hops continue to shine but a delicate malt sweetness, remarkably restrained and really light, appear. Drying, bitter, resiny on the finish. Outstanding.

Fresh can. 2021, abv=11.1%
Clear amber. Nice foamy white head and lace.
West coast hop bomb.
Piney nose.
Pine and citrus taste. Pretty boozy, though doesn’t taste 11% boozy.
Good, but not epic.

Umm, ok. Like going into a David Lean epic, you kind of have to ready yourself for this big boy. Now, do we have a “Dr. Zhivago” beer here? Not so much. Think more of “Hobson’s Choice.” Yeah, it’s not large and in charge, but it’s ok and it will do the trick.

Get some.

Bomber from Bine and Vine in San Diego. 2020 edition 11.1% ABV.
Pours a crystal clear dark golden colour with a finger of bubbly yet creamy short lived white head.
Aroma is a fruity hop bomb with grapefruit, mango, significant pine, all on caramel malt base with hint of honey.
Taste starts with some caramel malt sweetness but quickly hits with a resinous piney blast, notes of grapefruit, orange, mango - building bitterness.
Full mouthfeel with a building delightful sticky resinous character and lingering bitterness along with a boozy warming effect down the throat. Bitter yet remarkably drinkable. Highly recommend to the IPA seeking crowd.
