Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Deep rusted yellow, and slightly murky orange body, with a cloud appearance. Head is a good four fingers tall with about two fingers of retention and an off white color. Slightly soapy, with a creamy looking top.

Solid hop forward nose. Juicy fruit and spicy action on the hop angle. Hints faint tropical and some sweet grapefruit mixed in with some vanilla and woody like sweetness to match. Very nice, and simple.

Palate comes surprisingly different. Thick earth hop and woody bitterness. Very bitter finish with a hint of burning ash quality. Sweetness is hardly detected, letting the bitterness become dominant and bigger.

Overall not bad, but missing much of the chewy wheat depth I associate with that malt addition and the hop profile.

Poured from bottle purchased at Vendome in Fullerton into a beer goblet.

Appeared a light straw/yellow color. Very little head, I was expecting it to be thicker with the 50% wheat added to the malt bill.

Smells of very light citrus.

Mouthfeel is very light, very little body. Bitterness is sharp but fades fast.

Tastes like a sessionable IPA to me, not offensive, but not bold in anyway. Reminds me of the Nooner IPA from Sierra Nevada, although that one has a slightly thicker mouthfeel.

Overall an approachable lighter IPA for neophytes. Do not expect anything "wheaty" about this beer, but it is pretty good beer all things considered.

Two fingers of off white foam lifts above a very hazy gold/amber body. Retention on this beer is quite good as is the messy lacing that slathers the entire glass.

New Zealand hops dominate the aroma with an opening bright tropical number, tangerine citrus follows hinting at pungent herbs. Somewhat grainy in character the wheat malt brightens up the tropical aromas as the lemon zest and classical wheat aromas get lost in the hops.

The malt profile is grainy and somewhat flat/stale, some sweet donut batter in the mix, the wheat doesn't possess quite the burst in brightness that the aroma does. Hops are an even blend of tangerine citrus, hay/grass, pine and the holes patched up by an airy white peach. Finish lingers with the light pine and grasses, occasionally the lemony wheat pushes through. A crowd pleaser as far as IPAs are concerned, bitterness on the lower end of the spectrum.

The carbonation was really active upon pouring but as the beer sits and warms it gets quite flat. Easy body a shade more drinkable than average. Bitterness is low but so is the drying feel. Malt sits flat and stale on the palate.

This beer has some promise but like alot of the beers that hit heavy in tropical fruit aroma it fails to follow that into the flavor. The wheat component really thins out this beer putting focus away from the bitterness but adds very little else. I'd group this into the starter category for those developing a taste for hops.
