--> 22-oz bomber poured into a snifter...

A- Two fingers of white, pillowy foam atop a clear, golden-orange brew. Moderate head retention with scattered lacing.

S- Pineapple, citrus, and mango on the nose...amazing.

T- Tangerine and mixed tropical fruits up front with a subtle, almost imperceptible bitterness on the tail-end.

M- Smooth with an appropriate amount of carbonation.

O- Definitely a citrus-forward, low-hop (in a good way) IPA. A very pleasant and enjoyable surprise from a Left Coast brewery that was under my radar. Until now. Perhaps I have found a new "perma-want"...

* Thanks to choobaccaHB for this trade extra.

650ml bottle poured into an El Segundo Pint glass.

The beer pours a clear, golden straw color, hues of orange and light amber with a 2 finger soft, cloudy white head that has decent retention and leaves a touch of lace behind. The aroma is of sweet tropical fruit, mango, grapefruit and pineapple, lightly bitter pine, a bit of spiciness with some soft wheat and rich malt. Lots of pineapple on the tongue, backing passionfruit and mango with some crisp grapefruit and lemon rind, sweet malt, crushed wheat and light pine back this beer that is predominantly sweet rather than bitter and aggressive. The body is juicy, coats the mouth well, moderate carbonation with just enough prickly liveliness that finishes lightly sweet and lightly dry.

Verdict: A nice IPA from El Segundo. It's definitely on the sweeter end rather than the dank, bitter end, but the balance of flavors is really nice. The wheat component is nicely integrated, reminds me a lot of FFF Gumballhead, but less aggressive.

The Beers of California

#83

Bottled Date: None

A: Deep orange to copper with a big foamy and clingy off-white head, which fades slowly.

S: Pine and dankness play backseat to flowers, citrus and tropical fruit notes. Some surprisingly thick malt sugariness is also present.

T: Good strong malt backbone which supports a varied hop experience: earth, pine, tropical notes and lemon and grapefruit zest. The bitterness with a linger hint of citrus zest builds to a

M: Strong carbonation supporting a medium, oily feel with a tenacious linger.

O: The ale of uncertain age holds its own with other solid California West Coast IPA's. This will certainly be a regular if I can find it fresh and in sixers.
