Notes/Commercial Description:
Oude Gueuze Tilquin à l’Ancienne (6.0% alc/vol) is a spontaneous fermentation beer, produced from the blending of 1, 2 and 3 years old lambics. It is unfiltered and unpasteurized, and refermented in the bottle for at least 6 months. The lambics used were fermented and oak aged in our installations. These lambics are coming from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon breweries.

Big, fizzy carbonated head. Extremely lively dark orange/copper brew. Head retention is fine; lacing is spotty but clingy.

Big funky nose of wild yeast; slightest bit of skunk; lemon citrus and a hint of sour, wheat, dust, musty cheese.

Flavor follows the nose, with a barely-citric sourness up front; straw, hay, wheat, and wood in the main body; and a huge note of musty funk at the end.

Medium-light feel, with enough body to feel full and oily in the mouth. The sourness is light enough that there is little puckering. Long, semi-dry, sticky finish. Great retention. Lively, with little sting.

This is a good Gueuze, but I don't feel it ranks up near Cantillon or 3F Golden Blend for pure overall taste and experience. Nothing Tilquin does here is poor, but only the mouthfeel stands out as truly superb. Worth a try.

2012/2013 bottle date.

This is an '11 vintage.

The beer comes in a hazy peachy amber with a small white head.

The aroma has a big funkiness throughout of hay, farm, stinky socks. There is green apple peel, a lemony tartness, a bit of malty sweetness, slight restrained in general.

The flavor follows with green apple peel, lemon juice tartness, a light breadiness in the middle with some fruity sweetness even, a deep funkiness of stinky socks and farm quality. There's white wine character throughout. The beer is extremely dry.

A more restrained beer than Drie Fonteinen, as I had two blind. Still absolutely delicious though.
