Notes/Commercial Description:
Oude Gueuze Tilquin à l’Ancienne (6.0% alc/vol) is a spontaneous fermentation beer, produced from the blending of 1, 2 and 3 years old lambics. It is unfiltered and unpasteurized, and refermented in the bottle for at least 6 months. The lambics used were fermented and oak aged in our installations. These lambics are coming from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon breweries.

12.7 fl oz green bottle, caged and corked, served in a snifter.
2011-2012 vintage, best before 01/18/2022.

Hazy, golden copper in color beneath a carbonation-driven white head with pretty good retention. Some patches of condensed lacing, but lacking in strength.

Fresh citrus and vinous fruit-based tartness with just a touch of sweetness. The dry, earthen must character is certainly present, but not overstated; a very nice balance between competing aromatics.

Initially, dry and musty and honestly a bit bland before a fresh, sharply tart raspberry, cherry, and orange component rushes to the forefront. As expected for the style, the sour quality is rather intense, but not offensive as the lingering dryness does a pretty good job of cutting tartness.

A light, medium bodied. A burst of carbonation doesn't have a chance against the Gueuze's slickness.

A very solid version of the style. Not the best I've had, but nothing to really complain about either.

A: Silky hazy golden. Poured a massive false head that dissipated quickly. Left a thin continuous ring around the glass. Highly carbonated. Excellent color and super smooth consistency, but the head was the only downside.

S: Mild funky mustiness of old library books with grape and lemon lime zest.

T: Starts off with bright sweet sour lemon lime candy. Has a light saltine malt with a tangy white pepper. Sour green grapes. Bright tart green apple. Finishes with a white vinegar.

M: Thin light and extremely crisp. Mouth puckering with a salty dehydrating finish.

O: A little over exuberant on the sourness. Lots of complexity of both bright and mellow flavors, but you really have to work to get through all that tanginess.
