Notes/Commercial Description:
Oude Gueuze Tilquin à l’Ancienne (6.0% alc/vol) is a spontaneous fermentation beer, produced from the blending of 1, 2 and 3 years old lambics. It is unfiltered and unpasteurized, and refermented in the bottle for at least 6 months. The lambics used were fermented and oak aged in our installations. These lambics are coming from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon breweries.

2013/2014 printed on the bottle. Pours white amber with a white meringue like head. Super frothy and very fine bubbles. Surprisingly good lacing for a lambic.

Fresh fruit mingling with barnyard funk in the aroma. Thoroughly musty and rustic. Spices, oak, earthy blue cheese, and berries. Very complex but surprisingly balanced and approachable.

Tart upfront quickly followed by tea and mushroom. I often get overripe fruit in wild beers, but there's an interesting fresh fruit quality in this one. Bready malt can still be found given the relatively young age of the beer. Complex and drinkable.

High carbonation with loads of tannins. Firmly sour but not mouth puckering (for me at least).

An excellent complex and balanced gueuze. I'm sure Tilquin will soon be in the ranks of Cantillon and Drie Fonteinen.

Brilliant golden color, with almost no head. Aroma is lactic, acetic, and earthy, with a toasted oak character. There's almost a blue cheese sharp funk to it. Flavor reveals sour cherry notes, along with a clean, acetic and lactic character that dries nicely in the finish and becomes slightly barnyard/phenolic. Very impressive in the sourness that erupts and fades, cleansing the palate perfectly.
