Notes/Commercial Description:
Oude Gueuze Tilquin à l’Ancienne (6.0% alc/vol) is a spontaneous fermentation beer, produced from the blending of 1, 2 and 3 years old lambics. It is unfiltered and unpasteurized, and refermented in the bottle for at least 6 months. The lambics used were fermented and oak aged in our installations. These lambics are coming from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon breweries.

Sampled from a 375ml bottle purchased from Bier Temple in Brussels and taken home to the US.

Gold and slightly hazy with a moderate white head. Lemony aroma with good depth and complexity. Sour but smooth flavor with no rough edges. It has quite a champagne quality. A moderate consistency and a high carbonation.

A complex and elegant blend. Very tasty.

What a gueuze should be.. Delightful head in glass over straw body. Good barnyard and funk on nose, add lemons and unripe green apples. Vinous notes and a good sour kick to refresh. Lively and zesty carbonation.

Very well made, and on the money for style.

have enjoyed this brew on many occasions, but never reviewed...til now (although i imagine there are 4 or 5 reviews of this scribbled in notebooks somewhere). 2012 / 2013 12.7oz poured into a cantillon tumbler.

a - brew has a rich golden color...a bit thicker and richer than some of the others. thin creamy head of tiny bubbles holding hands. some visible carbonation and a touch of yeast floaters.

s - nose is killer. grass, hay, some funkiness...but also some nice lemon sweetness. more on the cantillon side than the 3F side of the spectrum.

t - really something else...spot on. fantastic for such a young gueuze. much more grassy than the nose suggested, but still has the lemon sweetness to balance things out.

m - very smooth with a hint of prickle.

o - overall, a world class shelf gueuze...let's hope the cat stays in the bag on this one so it stays gettable.

The beer pours a beautifully clear golden yellow shaded just towards orange and amber. Plenty of carbonation can be seen rising to the top to support the surprisingly steady and thick foamy white head. Smells tart with hints of orange, grape must, a touch of acetic acid and a wonderful background of wood, likely oak. Very enjoyable scent where the sourness does not overwhelm.

The flavor begins with a very clean and almost sweet doughy wheat flavor. Moves toward a peach like flavor and quickly followed with a tart sour finish that comes on a little strong with the lactic acid at the end that lingers. Mildly tannic finish as well. Mouthfeel is lively and medium bodied. Sourness warms the cheeks a bit.

Overall a very good beer. The scent is amazing, but the taste does not quite match. Altogether a well blended gueuze that I would recommend trying.
