Oude Gueuze Tilquin à l’Ancienne (6.0% alc/vol) is a spontaneous fermentation beer, produced from the blending of 1, 2 and 3 years old lambics. It is unfiltered and unpasteurized, and refermented in the bottle for at least 6 months. The lambics used were fermented and oak aged in our installations. These lambics are coming from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon breweries.

Bottle states 2012 and 2013. I assume bottled in 2012 and released in 2013? Label also states best before 12/02/2023 (so probably 6 months old).

A: Pours a cloudy pale orange with a lot of chunky sediment. Tall, frothy and thin white/off-white head. Bottle threatens to foam over constantly. Thin, patchy tufts of lacing everywhere.

S: Surprisingly subtle around. Very tart lemon and berries maybe? Quite tannic - approaching leather. Hints of oak.

T: Yup, pretty much as expected. Super tart lemons initially. Funky in the middle - very acidic and bile-like at points. Sour apples. Lightly leathery in the finish. Aftertaste is oaky and dry with lots of leather now. Sometimes get some burning rubber flavor, especially lingering around between sips.

M: High carbonation, medium bodied. Very tart and dry.

O: Big funky and sour gueuze for sure. Very funky, like chewing bile-soaked leather at times. Acidity is extremely high to boot. Not bad but a little too funky for me.
