Notes/Commercial Description:
Oude Gueuze Tilquin à l’Ancienne (6.0% alc/vol) is a spontaneous fermentation beer, produced from the blending of 1, 2 and 3 years old lambics. It is unfiltered and unpasteurized, and refermented in the bottle for at least 6 months. The lambics used were fermented and oak aged in our installations. These lambics are coming from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon breweries.

Cloudy with a straw-gold color. Medium, white, compact head with medium- retention.

Lactic, sour melon, lemon zest, horse hair, lemon-lime soda, oiled baseball glove, cheese rind.

Sour candy, cheese rind, gym socks, sour cherry, old leather, sour lactic tone, grapefruit, dirty.

Lean mouthfeel that is very linear and acidic. Very dry.

Super funky, even for a style that is sought out for it's funkiness. Maybe a bad bottle? Honestly, just this side of undrinkable.

12.7oz corked/caged bottle poured into a large snifter. Label says 2010 on one side, 2011 on the other. "Best before" date is 02/03/2021.

Pours clear golden with an initially small head that fades to almost nothing. Fairly still. Smell is tart and grapey.

Taste is super sour. Lemony, puckering. Crisp, refreshing.

Mouthfeel is dry and light. Overall, quite happy with my first gueuze in a long time.

"2011-2012 Vintage" 12.7 cork and caged bottle at fridge temp poured into a snifter.

The cork easily pops off resulting in a near gusher, but leaving ample time to pour in a glass. Lots of carbonation visible. The pour yields a nice 2 fingers of white fizzy head that quickly receeds to nothing eventually, but lots of fast rising carbonation bubbles. A nice hazy, light sunshine orange body.

Smells like a gueze. Acidic tart lemons, other citrus fruits as well as some softer fruits, peach. Some bready yeast with some sour yeast funk. With that lambic yeast is maybe even a bit of plastic which is not a bad thing here as it adds complexity. Somewhat lactic as well.

Acidic tart lemons, lactic feel, stone fruit, a bit of peach, some funk lambic yeast with a slight bready note. A very nice tart sourness. Some nice old oak barrel funk.

Starts off quite carbonated, but the carbonation dies down towards the end of the glass. Very crisp and refreshing, really nice for this hot summer day.

A really well put together gueze, definatly not to harsh on the sourness which some tend to be, but a nice first time gueze. Have I had better? Yes, but this still has its place.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours an enchanting apricot hue with a vague blush, with a bubbling white head. Lovely aroma, I mean just really pleasant. Marmalade and rose petals, citrus zest. Meyer lemon sweet/sour balance, dry and acidic. Really nice beer.
