This beer was brewed as a one-off in the spring of 2007. Available at the brewery on tap or to take home in a Party Pig.
I drew myself a pint of this at home, where it flowed into my pilsener glass with a large two-finger white head over a golden effervescent body. The head had good staying power and left webs of sticky lace on my glass. Bready malt was the first thing I smelled, but spicy hops and a slightly sulphurous aroma became more apparent as the beer warmed.
In keeping with the smell, bready malt and a touch of honey sweetness kicked off the taste before they were pushed aside by spicy hops, which provided a puckering bitterness and a drying finish. The lively carbonation and hop bitterness wiped the palate clean and made for a clean finish.
This was a well-done Czech pilsener that won't be around for much longer, unfortunately. Given the time and equipment involved in making lagers, it's understandable why smaller brewers stick to ales, but it's a shame Wild Rose doesn't currently have the capacity or inclination to make this beer regularly.

Pours very clean pale yellow with good size white bubbly head. Nice looking pils. Smell - grassy, bit malty, normal pilsner smell. Taste - grassy, malty, some bitterness, which is different from normal pilsner bitternes, and I wouldn't say I like it. Mothfeel is good, carbonation on spot, clean dry finish. It's drinkable BUT. It is ridiculously expensive.
So, it's pretty good, but I wouldn't buy it agay.

The 2009 version of this beer at a cost prohibitive $7.99 for a 500 ml snap top bottle for a pilsner. Frist of this beer would have to be the holygrail of pilsners for me to get excited about it at this cost. Wild Rose marketing department please rethink your marketing plan if you continue to us this packaging with Barley Wines and IIMPs maybe but not a 5% pilsner. A honest attempt at the style with some unpleasant late grassiness for the money rather buy 3 big cans of Pilsner Urquell or Radaburger.
