My second foray into the gose style, perhaps going local will improve my assessment of this style's sometimes-cited merits (those who love gose really swear by it). The salt is supposed to accentuate the other flavors rather than than dominate the proceedings and there should be detectable weizen yeast flavors along with the sour elements. Fortunately this concoction nails all these dimensions and more. Poured from the bomber into a classic German wheat glass (hooray for proper glassware, finally!), this one is a pale lemon drop yellow with a perfectly-formed thick white head. Smells carbolic and tangy but includes weizen aromas as well, I get a wheaty spicy tang, apple pomace, clove, weak banana, and a whiff of cider vinegar. Decent. On the palate the salt is detectable but plays an appropriate supporting role from start to finish ... Its there if you focus on it. Lemon juice and rind, fresh dough, applesauce, tannic coriander seed hull, clove-like weizen notes and a pleasing yeasty nutty funk that almost makes my brain register Belgian ... Almost but not quite. Things morph a bit from sour, funky, and spicy to a powdered sugary sweetness. There's even some Saaz herbal heroics to add another layer to appreciate. Full of bubbles as one would expect. I was prepared to give up the gose and then this came along ... Here comes the resurrection ...

A - hazy straw golden, thumb of white head fizzed and retained at a half finger
S - light buttery bready and grains with a significant sour yeasty funk to it
T - buttery bread, mild sour citrus yeastiness, light green grape flavour, but the big kicker is a saltiness that builds from start to finish and definitely enhances the flavour
M - light body, sour through the middle, finishes dry and salty which will keep you thirsty for more
O - my first foray into the style and I have to say that I definitely like this, the saltiness is unique and surely enhances the other flavours, well worth seeking out

Appearance - Pours a cloudy pale apricot yellow with a finger width of frothy white head.
Smell - Wheat, banana, clove, yeast, coriander, spices, light grass, orange.
Taste - Wheat, banana, clove, coriander, spices, orange. Has a nice sour twang to it, along with grassy hops and a nice salty characteristic.
Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall - For my first Gose style , Wild Rose delivers a refreshing and sessionable offering (easily a patio favourite). The flavours are present but by no means overpowering.

650ml bottle. Awesome pun for a beer made in this hard to come by style - a few more Albertans can now get this tick! Too bad they couldn't get Nic Cage to pull a cameo for the label, though, eh?
This beer pours a very cloudy, murky pale muddled straw colour, with three fingers of puffy, finely foamed eggshell-white head, which settles rapidly, and leaves some spectral lace around the glass, all backed by a thin layer of dirty-looking salt rime. Weird, but still one attractive quaff.
It smells of semi-sweet wheat malt, spicy coriander, orange, banana, and lemon esters, bitter grassy hops, pleasantly muddled yeast, and a somewhat sharp minerality. The taste is more kind of gritty, grainy wheat malt, still prominent coriander, orange and lime rind, sedate grassy, weedy hops, and sort of separate mineral acridity - ok, salt.
The bubbles are pretty low-key, and just barely supportive, the body medium-light in weight, and mostly workaday smooth. It finishes off-dry, the wheat malt and fruity yeast notes making this seem like a hefeweizen, one that the bartender mistook for a margarita at the last step.
A rather refreshing tipple, this style really just appearing to be a wit or hefe, touched up with a dose of salt, which, like in myriad other comestibles, contributes a certain, not quite palpable, desire for more. Well made, I can only assert, as I've only had one gose prior to this, and that one didn't really make any use of the salt additive. That isn't the case here, and is all the more drinkable for it.

650ml bottle into a Duvel glass.
Pours a hazy, milky yellow with a large pillowy head, dying down to a nice frothy covering.
Aromas of coriander, orange, lemon, banana, bread, wheat, and a hint of flinty rock (sulphur).
There is a little bit of salt coming through but this is balanced well with the sweetness from the malt/wheat. Nice citric & slightly tart flavours, just to cut through.
Good carbonation tickling the tongue, light to medium mouthfeel leading to a very refreshing, drying, slightly salty, bitter finish.
Only the 2nd Gose I’ve tried and it’s darn tasty! A definite session beer for the Summer; it really is a good, refreshing quaff.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 8/6/13
A very cloudy pale yellow almost milky, enough clarity to see a few bubbles but shes pretty hazy, two fingers of bone white foam sticks around for a few sips leaving some polka dot lace on its way down
S smells like a hefe with a little banana, clove and coriander, there's some cereals and hay with just a hint of lemon
T I get a little salt but not much, some herbal tea but other then that it smells very similar to the nose, well spiced and a nice balance formed
M light and refreshing and almost foamy from the bubbles but it stops just short, a little spice, grass and cereal lingers faintly on the finish
O I wasn't sure what to expect but I rather liked this one, I smashed the bomber solo in record time so to say this ones drinkable would be an understatement
This has patio sessions written all over it, my first Gose and props to Wildrose for trying new stuff.
Only three styles to go, someone send me some Happoshu, Sahti and how the hell have I never tried a Roggenbier? a few have passed through Alberta, I'm slacking I suppose
