A pleasant surprise, as this was picked up without any research or expectations. Bottle pours a clear dark brown with a respectable milk chocolate coloured head and impressive lacing. Aroma is muted compared to the taste, but a nice blend of chocolate malts with roasted nut tones. Flavours include dark chocolate and coffee elements. Sweet roasted malts transition to a delightful bitterness in the finish that hides most of the >7% alcohol heat.

Will have to plan a visit to Sawyer in next MI trip...

wow! what an aroma! yes, it smells like a full stout. beautiful looking in the bar glass with a nice cap of tan head on top of the ultra-dark brown brew. dark malts, toasted and roasted malts, slight cocoa, slight espresso.... what's the difference between a stout and a porter, again....? the battle rages on and this brew certainly doesn't do much to settle it, but fuel it....
feels like a good, old-fashioned stout, before the days of bourbon barrel aging and cherries and additional hops and all that good stuff that the recent craft brew scene has been promoting. a good, old-fashioned stout. that's what this is. bitter, chalky, roast-y. very nice brew.

L - black with a thinner creamy light brown head
S - chocolate, roasted barley, fruity esters of cherry, plum, and fig
T - bold and stout (for a porter - haha), dark chocolate, coffee-like roasted barley, ashy, fruity with cherry and plum
F - fuller bodied, very creamy and smooth, easy to drink even for 7.2%
O - surpriser here. I've had mixed feelings for what I've had from Greenbush so far, but this came through in a big way. Big, bold, almost imperial stout flavors, unique, and delicious. Solid. I'll buy this again.

Dad suprised me with a 6 pack of this. I dont understand what theyre saying on the bottle... a stout-ish porter and a poorter-ish stout. Ive been reading alot about porters lately and its funny how confusing it is. Basically theyre the same beer just one is stronger and more hopped than the other. Id be interested in seeing the recipe for this. It is very good, very... Irish, if that makes sense.
A- Looks just great, perfectly poured in my Stone Ruination pint glass. The head looks delicious. Good thick lacing. Id call this more of a stout than a porter.
S- Mmmm bitterness. I believe thats williamette or EKG... Love hops like that. They give it almost a sour bittterness that i like very much, thats kinda what I mean when I say Irish.
T- Its really tasty. Kinda porter-ish, Kinda Stout-ish. I dont know what they were going for heere but it turned out pretty good.
M-Here again, it gets confusing. Its like a porter that wants to be a stout. The mouthfeel says porter, as its thinner than most stouts. But I guess it is classified as a porter....
Overall, I like Greenbush beers, theyre really good and this one is definitely not my favorite, its decent, though. Would I seek it out? No. But Id love to try something else from this brewery.

12 oz bottle served in a snifter.
Pours opaque and essentially balck, with a large, creamy and durable light brown head. A little sediment left in the ottom of the bottle and a lot of lacing left on the sides of the glasses.

Aroma: has a sour note that I find undesirable in a porter. Rather spicy and hoppy for style.
Flavor: decent, but hoppy and sour for style. Very good bitter/sweet balance. Plenty of dark roasted grains plus hints of coffee in the lingering aftertaste.

O: Great looks and feel but unappealing aroma.
