12oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

(A)- Pours practically pitch black with some good tan froth.

(S)- Good spiced raisin and coffee grounds with subtle cocoa. A good solid porter aroma.

(T)- A good roasted bread meets bitter coffee grounds and raisin.

(M)- A good mellow carbonation level. Its really a solid porter with a nice mouthfeel without being too rich or sweet.

(O)- I am definitely liking what Greenbush is putting out. Its a solid porter with superb coffee bits to it.

Pours a deep cola color with a big thick creamy dep beige head that settles so slowly leaving multiple broken rings of lace as it settles into a frothy mass.Chocolate nad coffee dominate the aromas, the coffee gives off some big earthy roasted notes.A full smooth creamy feel is just great for this beer,it glides down easily.Deeply roasted coffee and bitter chocolate are the main flavor components, not very sweet with mild chalkiness and earth in the finish.I like this porter/stout alot,I like it's dryness and drinkability.

On tap at the Oak Cafe. Pours a deep, black color, though the shade might be exaggerated due to the dim lighting at the bar. Some super-deep ruby at the edges when help up to a light. Deep, dense looking tan head which shows excellent retention and leaves some nice lacing at the top of the glass.

Wow, the aroma was quite surprising - I guess I just wasn't expecting much. It has a nice toasty smell with lots of different things going on. Milky and dark chocolates, campfire-like smokiness, big-time roasted malts... The aroma actually reminds be a big of Founders Porter, which is definitely a top notch porter for me. If that is any indication of how this beer will taste, then I'm excited. Mild creamy sweetness in the tail end of the aroma, paired with a touch of bittersweet cocoa.

The taste is very smooth and easy going, although possibly a let-down based off of how much I liked the aroma. Lightly creamy with that heavy, roasted, campfire-woodsy flavor hitting my palate first. Some very light char that gets stronger and stronger with warmth. Slightly milky and packed with all kinds of chocolate characteristics. A nice hop profile comes in about midway through, placing a mild bitterness at the back of the tongue - a good balance to the malty sweetness.

Lots of carbonation turns the beer into a cloudy pillow of froth after a few seconds in your mouth, but I'm not sure that's the best route to go with for a porter. Aftertaste is packed with more charred flavors, an even more solid campfire woodiness, and a heaping of toasted nuts. Overall the beer gets a bit sweeter as it warms, but the light hop profile is always discernible. A more medium bodied, creamy and slick brew is present once the carbonation has time to disperse just a bit.

Probably one of the better things I've had from Greenbush, though I've been relatively unimpressed with their offerings to far. Had this both on tap and out of the bottle and it was MUCH better on tap. If I had to go Greenbush, this would be a top choice for me. Solid porter all around.

A - Pours black with one finger of brown head. Head has pretty good retention and leaves nice lacing.

S - Roasted malt and chocolate. Has a bit of sweetnesss, but mostly a roasty nose.

T - Nice mix of roasted malt, buttersweet chocolate and some milk chocolate. Very faint amount of char. Very nice.

M - Medium mouthfeel that is quite roasty.

O - This has a bit of a stout character, but definitely still fits within the porter style. Nice flavors and mouthfeel. Another good one from Greenbush.

12 oz bottle served in a snifter.
Pours opaque and essentially balck, with a large, creamy and durable light brown head. A little sediment left in the ottom of the bottle and a lot of lacing left on the sides of the glasses.

Aroma: has a sour note that I find undesirable in a porter. Rather spicy and hoppy for style.
Flavor: decent, but hoppy and sour for style. Very good bitter/sweet balance. Plenty of dark roasted grains plus hints of coffee in the lingering aftertaste.

O: Great looks and feel but unappealing aroma.

Merry Christmas! The first beer of the day is the Distorter Porter! The beer poured an opaque black with tan head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent carries subtle earth tones with hints of espresso. The taste is roasty and earthy with touches of coffee. The mouthfeel is full body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a great beer to start the day.
