This is a pretty good example of a smaller, successful brewer not sticking to its knitting.
That said, 1825 is not a botch... but close. This young brewer has grown so fast that it should take this beer as their lesson to stick to their knitting.
Simply stated: it is very hard for a brewer that relies on hops to distinguish itself in the market and, then, to develop the distinct yeast that makes Belgians. Belgo-philes like me don't enjoy tasting too many other brewers' experiments, really their ventures into foreign styles.
While 1825 is a tasty ale to start, it is not a good one. While it does mask its alcohol well, there is very little fruitiness in the nose or taste. And in my mouth, a slight coating is forming... perhaps to protect itself from a brewer that simply does not know how to do Belgians well.
Advice? Stick to your knitting.

A: A murky brown color with a tan head.
S: Caramel sweetness, with rough alcohol, light clove, and the smell of unfermented extract wort. Fruity finish with apricot and more clove.
T: A caramel malt mess. Lots of fruit, but mixed in is an almost burnt caramel flavor, and it's not great. Raisins, and cloves show up in a cloying finish
M: Medium thick, with fairly active carbonation. An odd slickness in the finish.
O: Overall this is a malt bomb mess for me. The Belgian character and the malt don't go well together for me. The bottle says it is a Belgian style golden ale with a little something special. No mention to whatever that special thing is, but this brew is a big miss for me. This is only the second beer from this brewery that I have had, and both have been real rough.

12 oz brown bottle - Bottled on October 2015
Greenbush 1825 Ale filled my tulip glass with a burnt orange [dirty gold] colored body. Only a small [about a finger] off-white head was produced. The head was reduced to a thin collar of foam and very light lacing. The smell is standard for a Belgian Strong Ale. The nose picks up sugar, light fruit, and cloves. The taste follows the nose - sweet sugar, light fruit [green apple, pear, banana] then a peppery clove is noticed. A light hop taste is present at the finish. The mouth feel is medium bodied with an active carbonation.
1825 Ale is a good American brewed representation of the BSPA style.

Bottled 9/30/14; drank 1/25/15 @ the Yarchives.
Poured from the bottle into a glass.
Murky orange/red appearance.
HUGE white head (careful pouring!); a curtain of lace.
Honey, apricot, brown sugar & a hint of funk in the nose.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Apricot, caramel & brown sugar flavors up front; apple cider & funk on the finish. Mild booze heat & black pepper notes emerged as this warmed.
A lot going on, but definitely worth a quaff!!

Very good and I was somehow surprised that I enjoyed it. The abv is hidden very well. Poured into a 12oz glass color is dark copper with some cloud. About a finger of head which dissipated fairly quick. Smell of clove. Taste was very good with what I feel to be honey sweetness. Looking for spice I get a tinge of pepper at the front which leaves as soon as you recognize it. Very drinkable and one to look for in my book. Greenbush hit another home run.
