Appearance: a burnt orange. pretty earthy orange. very hazy and completely opaque. a creamy white head of about a finger and a half that sticks around for ever

Smell: strong cinnamon. yeasty flavors, some spicy phenols. some clove. mostly dominated by cinnamon but a pretty inviting winter scent overall

Taste: opens up with a bit of belgian yeast. some spicy and clovey taste. cut off abruptly by cinnamon. rarely i get an odd kick of alcohol.

Mouthfeel: fairly light, pretty dry, but not overly. lingering cinnamon

Overall: a good spiced winter white. a good switch up in the winter from all the stouts and bourbon barrels. still missing either strong yeast to combat the cinnamon. also the astringent alcohol gets me a little too much

Draft served in a small rounded pilsner glass at Howells and Hood.

Clear amber color with trails of visible carbonation. Tight head of white foam that left behind a little spotty lacing. Doesn't look like a "Belgian Wheat" as described by the bartenders sell sheet. Flaked oats, Munich malt, Tettnanger hops were all used, from what I can recall from that same blurb.

Aroma was grassy, lightly malty, and muted, didn't notice any coriander or any identifiable wit characteristics.

Taste was slightly dry and herbal, vague bready malt and light floral presence. Light bodied and drinkable, though fairly simple and one dimensional. It didn't hold enough attention to drink more.

Roommate brought these home to share, so I have no idea what the store price would be. He works at the distributor for this beer in Chicago and gets them for $10/case, so I'm lucky to get to enjoy them at that price. 12oz brown bottles with no freshness date.

The beer pours a cloudy apricot color, which would be expected from a beer made with wheat malt and wheat flakes. It made a ½-finger white head that lasted about a minute, leaving just a small amount of spotty lacing.

The beer smelled wheaty with lots of spices. It also has some barnyard smell to it.

One sip and you know that this is definitely a spiced beer as it's loaded with cloves, cardamon, and orange peel. Belgian yeast, wheat, and caramel make up most of the other flavors. Low, but noticeable hop bitterness (at just 20 IBUs), with a touch of alcohol in the finish.

Creamy, smooth, and medium bodied with moderate to medium carbonation.

Overall, I thought it was a good, spiced beer.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Another new beer to me from Greenbush, acquired as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a slightly hazed golden orange with some dark sediment visible. One finger of fizzy white foam for a head that dies down quick. Looks alright for what it is.

S - Smell is of acidic lactose, vinegar tartness, clove spice, bananas, bubblegum toothpaste, & cream. Tons of bananas and creamy yogurt culture smells permeate the nose.

T - Taste is of lemongrass, musty yeast, dry breadiness, fruity creamy banana, some floral spice like coriander and cloves, but mostly lots of yeasty earthiness. Some metallic minerals on the finish.

M - Feel is crisp and carbonated, with a smooth, clean, dry finish. Bitter earthiness lingering on the palate.

Overall, not a very "wintery" sort of beer, but it's whatever. Well enough for what it actually is, but it is a fairly standard, average offering from Greenbush.

I picked up a bottle of Greenbush's Jadis a couple days ago for $1.69 at The Lager Mill. I think Greenbush is a pretty solid brewery so I thought I would give their Winter White Ale a try, so lets see how it goes. No visible bottling date, but It just showed up so it's fairly fresh. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.

A- The label looks nice, I like the unique black and white winter scene in the background, but I don't think it's too eye catching. It poured a nice and hazy orange color that was slightly golden and it took on more of a darker orange color when held to the light with a finger worth of off white head that quickly died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and left a little bit of spotty lacing behind. This was a nice looking beer, but it would be nice if it had a little more head and retention.

S- The aroma starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness that has a light molasses and brown sugar like aroma to it followed by loads of spices up front that pretty much dominate the aroma of this beer and impart some clove and cinnamon like aromas with ginger and nutmeg seeming to stick out the most. Up next comes a light wheaty aroma with a light citrus rind like aroma, but the spices seem to overpower them. The aroma was nice, it smelled more like Gingerbread then some Gingerbread beers I've had, but I wish the wheat and citrus rind aromas came through a little more to provide better balance.

T- The taste seems to be pretty similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness that has a slight brown sugar like aroma to it followed by all those spices that I picked up in the aroma with the ginger and nutmeg still seeming to stick out the most. Up next comes a malt flavor with some grainy and caramel malt like flavors coming through. On the finish there's a slight orange rind flavor followed by a lower amount of bitterness with a slightly malty and fairly spicy aftertaste. This was nice a tasting beer and I thought the taste was more balanced then the aroma which I liked.

M- Fairly smooth, crisp, surprisingly clean, a little dry, medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel was nice and it worked well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a nice beer, to me it wasn't the best example of a winter white ale simply because it didn't have that pretty noticeable wheat and citrus rind aspect to balance out all those spices, so I think it fits fine into the Herbed Spiced beer category and that's what BA has it classified as, I also think it could fit into the Winter Warmer style. This beer had decent drinkability, it was smooth, clean, not filling and the taste did a decent job at holding my attention, but I think this beer would start to wear on me after awhile so I think one or two would be enough for me. What I like the most about this beer was the taste, I think it had better balance then the aroma did and I thought the spices showed up just enough. What I liked the least about this beer was the appearance, it wasn't bad at all, but a little more head and better retention would help it out. I might buy this beer again, I don't know if i'll get another bottle this season, but if they release next year there's a good chance I'll get a bottle. I would recommend this to anyone who likes spiced beers. All in all I thought this was a solid beer, it wasn't over spiced like a few beers that come out around this time of the year. It's not my favorite Greenbush beer, but it's by far my least favorite. Keep up the good work guys.

Served in a Lgunitas mason jar.

Dammit, now I've got Jadakiss on the brain... Anyway, this stuff pours a lightly-murky topaz topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises orange zest, coriander, cardamom, chamomile, light lemon zest, and a touch of cream. The taste brings in more of the same, with some black pepper added, some extra coriander, and a bit of orange peel bitterness tossed in for good measure. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a wet feel. Overall, a nice spiced wheat, nothing special, but I could drink another were one offered.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours hazy orange amber color with a 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of big pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, clove, pepper, wheat, biscuit, coriander, cardamom, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of spice, malt, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, wheat, biscuit, clove, pepper, herbal, floral, coriander, cardamom, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, wheat, biscuit, clove, coriander, cardamom, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of malt, spice, and yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice witbier. All around good balance and robustness of malt, spice, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
