Bottle poured into a Greenbush snifter.

Pour: Oily dark brown with a nearly midnight black body. A finger of deep khaki head forms and leaves a little bit of lacing.

Smell: Wow. Incredibly roasted oak char, seamlessly mixed with creamy milk chocolate, butterscotch, and toffee. The butterscotch is definitely the most prevalent flavor, but everything else supports it very well. A hint of coffee. This smells perfect.

Taste: Again, woah. Huge oak char up front, mixed with clean bourbon vanilla, smooth roastiness, and sticky toffee. Loads of butterscotch and milk chocolate in the middle. As it warms, the roast on the back really owns with a delicious char and smooth vanilla. In no way is this beer smokey - simply roasty and full. Finished with sticky toffee, melted milk chocolate, and dry roasted oak.

Mouthfeel: The body of this is incredibly creamy and smooth. A nice sipper, at least simply for the oak character. A touch too sweet as it warms, but this isn't a major negative. A nice bourbon presence, but not much heat to speak of.

Overall: So Greenbush literally has made me eat (drink?) my words. This was one of the best barrel aged stouts I've ever had. Incredibly unique and unlike any other of the style I've had before.

Huge thanks to Ivan for the chance to try this one. Had no idea what I was walking into on this.

A: Black body capped by a huge tan head that foams up in the glass like crazy, nearly spilling over. Retention is ridiculous, and after about ten minutes, the beer finally settles at about a half finger. Leaves big spots of lace after each sip.

S: Some subdued whiskey notes right away with a lot of sweetness behind it. Milk chocolate, rich cream, coffee with sugar and cream, char, roasted malt and some light oak. Very well balanced.

T: Roasted malt mingling with milk chocolate right away. Some caramel, tootsie roll, vanilla, cream and toffee in the middle. Finish shows a touch of smoke, anise and charred oak. Mouthfeel is rich and super creamy. The thick head makes the beer almost milkshake-like. A really unique and really incredible barrel aged stout.

12oz bottle. Thanks JR. Poured into a O'so snifter today, 4/22/2014.

A- Dark black body, two finger mocha head that's particularly large for a BA stout like this. Great retention and some lacing left over. Quite different than all the other BA stouts I've seen, actually.

S- Very sweet lactose, roast and charred malts that is cut by a nice bitter spicy rye nose. Solid, nothing super special or pungent, but this combination shows up much better on the nose.

F- Very good and very balanced. Simultaneously sweet lactose, sweet whiskey notes and dark malts mixed in with the rye bitterness that balances everything out. Very flavourful and very interesting.

M- Medium bodied but on the thicker side, very substantial and surprisingly low carbonation despite the large head in the appearance.

O- Very good imperial stout, it's certainly not BCBS but it's a very good and somewhat unique beer in its own right.

Bottle as an extra from Tim. Big time thanks! Pours black with a big fluffy dark brown head that pops out of my Teku glass. Some roast and sweet lactose aroma, a little chocolate, a bit of bourbon booze. Plenty of rye whiskey here on top of a big roasty stout. Some dark chocolate notes, a bit of dark fruit, and some more mellow whiskey. Lingering roast and like oak left on the palate. Rich mouthfeel supported by what I assume is lactose that sweetens things up a bit. Low to medium carbonation. A really nice beer with good balance between roast, sweet, and spicy rye whiskey notes.
