Had on tap at Greenbush. Served in a snifter. This is their regular Ursus aged in local Tabor Hill Port Wine Barrels.
A: Pours a murky brown color with a yellowish head forming on the pour. Nice retention as I drink. It recedes slowly down the glass leaving behind sticky sheets of lace.
S: This is super grapey. Very vinous and sweet. A little boozy with a touch of oak as well. At this point the base is pretty lost and it's mostly port barrel.
T: Thankfully the dominance of the Port barrel takes a backseat and the base beer is back. The red grape from the Port barrel is back with a touch of wet oak as well. Dry roasted malts and a touch of sweet bread as well. Minimal leather with a caramel sweetness as it warms. Minimal background tartness.
M: Medium to heavy bodied with a medium carbonation level. Drying finish with a grape sweetness as well.
O: The Port barrel was extremely aggressive in this beer and the base got slightly lost. If it was toned down a little bit it would have been much better.
