Thanks to Blake for bringing this bottle. Cabra Perdida pours an obsidian shade of black, only hampered by a deep, deep brown translucency that shows at the top of the beer. The tan cap foams up to about a quarter-inch before it hastily recedes to a wispy film and thin ring around the outside of the brew. No lacing, no legging.

Some deeply aromatic blueberry is present in the aroma; it's very sweet and seems almost syrup driven, though it's not so strong as to put you in a sugar coma or anything. Some milky, sweet cream aroma rise up from the brew as well, giving a nice backdrop for the blueberries. Light oak is present from the barrel, though booze certainly is not, with a creamy and slightly nutty finish.

The blueberries are a little more tame on the palate, and I'm thinking that's a good thing. Blueberries in mass quantity can really come through poorly in heavy stouts if done improperly. They're sweet and fragrant, but don't taste so syrupy and artificial, which is nice. The taste also contains a more noticeable barrel presence, with whiskey, oak, and warm vanilla all being appreciated.

Barrel Aged Cabra Perdida seems to follow a gradient from more-boozy less-sweet to more-sweet less-boozy over time, and by the end of the small pour I had, the beer was almost dessert-like in flavor. Lots of finishing chocolate, faint blueberry, and some malty sweetness. The blueberries even begin to bring a very, very mild tartness at one point. Welcomed, rather than abhorred.

Medium-heavy bodied with really nice carbonation that makes for a slightly rougher than "smooth" mouth feel. I haven't had a chance to try the base beer for this one yet, but people at the table said that the barrel aged version blew it out of the water. I'd still like to try it just for my own records, though. Pretty well done for a fruited, barrel aged stout.

12 oz bottle. Near black with finger tan head fading quickly, no lace. Blueberry n fruit evident in the aroma along with roasted chocolate n wood. Boozy taste right up front, lots of alcohol warmth and red wine. Fruit is there but subtle, roasted chocolate notes, licorice and wood lingers. Low to med carbonation and thin to medium mouthfeel. Overall good fruited stout, glad I got to try it.

A- Pours dark with half finger head that dissipates fairly quickly.

S- Plenty of blueberry, some booze, maltiness, faint chocolate

T- Dark roast, lots of blueberry notes, bourbon comes through. Good balance of blueberry to stout. Well executes amount of fruit, if you enjoy fruited stouts you will enjoy this.

M: Good body, slightly thin for what I expected but still quite enjoyable.

O: Really nice beer, good aroma, great beer if you love fruited BA stouts.
