Got this one at the LCBO.

From a bomber into a snifter

APPEARANCE: A clear brown pour yields a small, medium looking, fizzy, off-white head with decent retention. Transparent maroon red, very dark red, with no carbonation evident. Head fades to a ring and faint wisp. A ring remains until the end but leaves no lacing down the glass. Looks a little flat by the end of the glass.

SMELL: Caramel, toffee, some dark fruits and slightly nutty on the nose. Dates and prunes as well. Okay.

TASTE: Spicy up front with caramel, toffee sweetness through the middle into the finish. Mild and kind of unimpressive finish is slightly sweet with more toffee, some nuts and leather, with touches of bitterness as balance.

PALATE: Medium body and carbonation. A little light on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a touch sticky. A bit watery perhaps.

OVERALL: This was the least impressive of the few beers I tried. A bit watery in the flavor and too light in the feel. Not all that impressive, unfortunately. Pass.

Thanks to kjyost for this one.

Poured from a 650ml. bottle, no freshness info.

Appearance: Pours a brown color with the edges having the aspect caramalization, also reflected in the head with is decent but doesn't stick around too much.

Smell: Chewy nuts, brown bread, rich, caramel.

Taste: Strong & sweet maltiness, layer of chewy caramel (reminds me of caramel squares), bit bready, dried cranberries. Room temp brings some herbs in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Ultra smooth, blanket of creaminess.

Overall: A very good brew that would score higher if the appearance had been better.

Nice body color, deep amber, dark yellow head, not so lacy for such a body.
Roasted coffee and licorice, flavor is present but maybe not enough persistent.
Alcohol arrives in the aftertaste, in the throat and stomach - not in the mouth.
Good standalone beer, for aperitif or as a nightcap.

650ml bottle poured into a goblet. ABV 8%.

A - Poured a very dark brown with a thin head, minimal lacing.

S - Roasted, toasted, toffee, earthy, hint of dried fruit, hint of booze.

T - Quite sweet, some toast, some nuttiness, a slight fruity sourness in the middle, flavour feels thin at times.

M - Medium-low carbonation, medium-heavy body, syrupy, finishes with a bit of heat.

O - Tasted like a dopplebock but overall I'm not really digging this one.

Bomber from the Ottawa LCBO for $7 - from 2012

Appearance - Reddish brown colour with an average size fizzy/frothy beige head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some great lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, chocolate, dark fruits, caramel/butterscotch

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, chocolate, and a light smokiness. There are also some earthy notes, dark fruits, butterscotch/caramel, and a bit of anise. It ends with a malty sweet and spicy aftertaste.

Overall - Surprisingly good. It has a pleasant taste that is flavorful yet not over powering. It might be just touch thin for the style, but it is well worth trying. I'd probably buy this again.
