Picked this one up from the Tree Brewing sampler. I've had a few of their beers before and they have all been very tasty. Let's see if this is much of the same.

The beer pours a nice colour that sits between orange and brown with a head three fingers' in thickness that takes a good deal of time to dissipate. This beer has a very enticing smell - It reminds me of an IPA, although it's a good deal sweeter than that. There is some orange to the aroma as well. Overall the smell is very unique.

The taste of the beer is really bold - the first sip has a nice citrus note to it with a really full body. There is a faint hoppiness that follows afterwards, but it's still pretty noticeable. It's hard to describe it more than that; all I can say more is that it's just good for sipping, yet it also chugs very well. Feels great going down too.

I thought this would be a very simple beer, but it's actually fantastic.

Poured from 500mL tall can into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: medium golden hue with a haze-free body and a moderate effervescence. Head is a thick finger of frothy ivory foam. I don't know if I would call this a blonde ale, but the brewers bill this as simply a "session ale", so I guess I can't fault them for that. I rather like the look of this beer, though.

Smell: sweet malt with a refreshing lemony element; it reminds me a little bit of grains of paradise except more tolerable. There are also floral notes. It's rather working for me!

Taste: flavor is just like the aroma, although there are hints of toastiness in the malt as well. Usually these sweet, floral, toasty brews don't work for me, but this one is. It is walking the line between a blonde ale and a pale ale, I would say.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a big carbonation and a very satisfying creaminess. I am a fan!

Overall: this beer simply works for me. It might not objectively be the greatest thing in the world, but I could see myself quaffing many of these at a barbecue or camping trip. Bam!

Can: Poured a bright golden color ale with a generous head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light cereal notes with some sweet notes also noticeable. Taste is also dominated by light cereal notes with some light citrus notes and some sweet undertones notes also noticeable. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. I was expecting an even lighter beer considering the style but in the end this is enjoyable enough as it is.

Part of their new summer mixed pack this is a simple yet satisfying golden ale that has a different hop profile than the pale ale making it worth seeking out. The hops have a pleasant aftertaste and work well within the style of the beer. Tastes pretty good out of the can which can be a Summer perquisite depending where you are drinking. Nothing mid blowing but something tasty to drink at the BBB.

355ml can poured into pint glass 16/5/13

A clear light golden copper with several streams of bubbles floating up to a short lived finger of foam that leaves a couple partial rings of lace

S soft toffee and a little butterscotch, sweet grains, some wet hay, slightly nutty with some fruit I can't place

T slightly more fruity notes and a little biscuit I wasn't smelling, basic but fairly decent, some leafy earthy notes as it warms

M medium bodied with enough bubbles to cream it up, grainy, earthy finish, no problems here

O pretty basic but its easy enough to drink but as far as a session beer goes I'd probably get board

a Summer lawnmower beer, nothing to be ashamed of but nothing worth seeking out

355ml can, another refugee from the summer 2013 Character Pack. Suitably hippy-friendly label, with decent brewing specifics listed, especially the Palisade and Cascade hop mentions.

This beer pours a medium golden colour, with two fingers of bubbly, thinly foamy off-white head, which leaves a few ambitious skyward streaks of lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of grainy, biscuity malt, a bit of earthy spiciness, and rather prominent domestic and tropical fruit esters - orange, pineapple, and guava. The taste is rather more malty, the bready, warm biscuit essence predominating, with a strangely sneeze-inducing black pepper spiciness, oily nuts, musty oranges, and overripe pineapple filling things out.

The bubbles are a tad frothy, but not much more, the body a lulling medium weight, and generally smooth in that Tree ale manner. It finishes a bit on the sweet side, the bready malt maintaining the most staying power.

Certainly a 'session' ale, in the sense of a plain, straightforward balance between malt and sassy hop, the fruitiness adding an extra element of popular attraction. Easy drinking for yer average patio, be they lakeside or not.

IBU - 18
Hops - Palisade, Cascade
Malt - Pale, Munich, Vienna

A: Golden-bronze with a white head, a little bit of retention leaves some lace.

S: Not a huge nose in this session ale, but it is nice. Light peppery spicing, bit of citrus rind, candied pineapple and sponge toffee.

T: Marmalade; sponge toffee; earthy, nutshell-like bitterness; light breadyness, slight hint of buttery diacetyl that's somewhat lager-like.

M: Light to moderate body is smooth, with a slight residual sweetness.

O: It's an interesting flavour profile, with almost nobel-like hopping. Finish this with some dank simcoe hops and people might start talking about peace & love. ;D
