355ml can, a single nicked from Tree's current Character Pack, their 'Raspberry Infused Ale'. Apparently, this is also made with Perle, Cascade, and Columbus hops, and comes in at a whole 15 IBU. What is wrong with this picture..hmmm.

This beer pours a crystal clear, salmon-tinged medium brassy amber hue, with two fingers of bubbly, tightly foamy off-white head, which leaves a low ebbing vista of landfall lace around the glass as it lazily wafts away.

It smells of stewing raspberry puree, musty orange and grapefruit juice, a sedate leafy pine essence, all over a sturdy doughy, bready pale malt. The taste is muddled raspberry, grapefruit, and orange fruit flesh, an echo of pine and leafy bitterness, grainy, somewhat yeasty bready malt, and a hallow whisper of menthol cough drops.

The carbonation is quite sedate, the body actually a bit heavier than that proclaimed in the same label musings as the IBU rating, and more or less smooth, a slight mushed fruit creaminess seeping in. It finishes off-dry, those hops continuing to do their thing in the background, while the Okanagan's best fruitiness rounds things out in the face of little malt ingress.

A more than acceptable fruit ale, the caveat being that the berry on the label doesn't really break out in a starring role, but rather shares it equally with the sneaky hops' best impressions of its orchard cousins (I get it now - their number is misleading). Worthy of a few rounds, especially if the sun is nigh and high, and the patio beckons, even if it's only your own.

Can: Poured a golden color ale with light pink hazy notes and some spritzy carbonation with no retention and head lacing. Aroma of raspberry syrup with unrefined grainy notes is not the most pleasant. Taste is also dominated by fake syrupy notes of raspberry with unrefined grain malt notes and some stale hops notes. Body is light with low carbonation. It had been a while since I tasted such a bad fruit-based beer.

355ml can poured into tulip 16/5/13

A clear but very light copper with a hint of pink when it sits on the table, just a few bubbles and a short lived film even an angry pour leaves just a random patch of lace

S raspberry ice cream with some cereal and soft caramel, very faint hops but it smells decent, reminds me of a creamy raspberry desert

T more of the same really, some citrus but its faint, it could use more raspberry to be honest, and although its not dry I wouldn't mind a little more sweetness

M light and refreshing with enough carbonation to give it some life, slightly tart with just a faint raspberry aftertaste

O another OK beer from Tree that's nothing to be ashamed but I doubt I'd buy it again. I'd like more fruit if anything, easy enough to drink I only wish it was hot out

I have no issues finishing off the other pair from my mixed pack but I wont be upset if my wife get to them first and that's a likely situation

One of a few new fruit beers from Tree. This is a ale based Raspberry beer that shows some hops but relies mostly on the interplay of ale and fruit. Decent fruit beer though it tasted a little mixed in its taste and the mouthfeel was a little thick. Fine in the mixed 12 pack but not one I would order on it own.
