330ml bottle poured into tulip 15/5/13

A hazy bright yellow with enough clarity to see a few bubbles floating up to a thumbs width of foam that quickly falls to a thin film leaving a few random patches of lace. I expect more foam and retention from the style but decent nonetheless

S fresh pineapples strong almost overwhelming the Hefe aspects, there's still some clove, banana, lemon, and some dry cereal but pineapples in charge and I do like pineapple

T a little tart and slightly sour, what I smells still there but its missing just a little something the nose had

M thin and a little foamy, makes me burp a fair bit, lets call it "stomach feel" pineapple and hefe yeast on the finish but its faint

O it's easy enough to drink but there's room for improvement, a little gassy and I just know some old school German brewers rolling over in his grave just at the though of this beer, not so 1516 that's for sure

Makes me think of Mac Tonight from the Mc Donald's commercials when I was a kid, I'm wondering if Tree will get sued over it. I drank a few of these quickly so that says something, give me a hot Summer Sun and a lawnmower and I could knock a few back but I wouldn't go looking for it

330ml bottle. Nothing further that might be revelatory on the neck-only label, other than the suggestion of a stoned-out waning moon.

This beer pours a cloudy pale golden yellow hue, with three fingers of puffy silken foamy off-white head, which leaves at least a half-turn of honeycombed lace around the glass as it steadily recedes.

It smells quite forwardly of a freshly sliced pineapple fruitiness, which more or less overwhelms the barely perceptible yeast, banana, and coriander essences, all except for the semi-sweet pale wheat graininess, which comes through unscathed. The taste is more barely adulterated pineapple, a heftier grainy wheat malt, and burgeoning yeast, clove, and banana chip esters.

The bubbles are fairly sublimated, the body a decent fruit-abetted medium weight, and adequately smooth, with a hint of creaminess in and about. It finishes on the dry side, weirdly, as the pineapple flips to its rather tame acidic side, and the endemic spices take minor advantage of such.

A pleasant enough fruited up version of a venerable old-world style, respect being duly paid, even if the guest star is just a little too adulated and adored. Summery as all get out, and balanced enough to engender at least another round or two, patio conditions pending.

A - clear light golden, thumb of white head held respectably, left plenty of lacing
S - hints of sweet pineapple, some grains, its interesting here if a little strange
T - mellow sweet pineapple flavour, light grainy malts, touch of leafy hops and hints of herbs
M - light and smooth, easy drinking
O - the pineapple flavour definitely works with this style, its inviting and easy drinking, a great summer time sipper

Poured from a 355ml bottle. Pours a cloudy bright yellow colour. There are some really nice aromas of fruity bubblegum and pineapple on the nose, so you get a nice combination of the hefe and pineapple juice. Taste is even more complex with notes of stone fruit, clove, banana and pineapple. The carbonation is effervescent and refreshing and it has a nice dry finish. This is a great summer brew.

650ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $5.50 or so

Appearance - Gold colour with a large size white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some great lacing. The head lasted for around 4-5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Banana, pineapple, breads/grains

Taste & Mouth - There is a average amount of carbonation and I can taste banana, breads/grains, and some floral notes. There is also pineapple, some yeasty notes, and a bit of a peppery spice mix.

Overall - The pineapple/fruity flavours are borderline cloying at times, but it is definitely an interesting beer. Not an every day beer but something that is worth trying for sure. It doesn't taste all that artificial as some fruit beers do.

I'd say this is more of a fruit beer than a true hefe... though it certainly has more malt character than a Radler.

I though the first batch had a little too much pineapple acidity, but now I'd say it's a wonder summer session brew.

Hazy straw, nice white head, leaves some good lace. Pineapple is certainly apparant in the aroma & flavour; some vanilla; hint of banana, not much clove to mess with the fruit. I like it.

Moderate body has a refreshing acidity.

Hefeweizens are naturally, characteristically cloudy and, last time I checked, pineapple juice wasn't exactly brilliant and sparkling neither; if anything, it's actually a bit surprising Mellow Moon is as clear - relatively speaking - as it is. Of course, transparency has no bearing on tone and, the minor haze notwithstanding, this bubbly, golden-yellow beer has a blindingly bright shine to it.

Adding pineapple juice to a Hefeweizen may infuriate a few purists in Bavaria but it's sure to greatly please pretty much everyone else in the world (assuming the prerequisite of liking pineapple, of course). This beer brims with juicy, sugary pineapple and citrus notes while still retaining the savory clove and spicy white pepper notes of the yeast.

There are mid-palate flavours of cereal grain, bubblegum, lemony citrus, and pineapple juice, while the finish shows a sudden turn to spicy and savory notes, a smack of vanilla, as well as a trace of the style's characteristic banana taste. There's a strongly acidic spine (something typical of the style, though I'd assume enhanced by the addition of pineapple juice).

You wouldn't necessarily think of weissbier as having far-reaching potential at the dinner table - the high-octane refreshment means it's ticketed most often as a patio drink - but the style's hallmark notes (tropical, orchard and citrus fruit, clove, pepper, bubblegum, grain, vanilla) are as diverse as they are powerful and offer plenty of pairing potential. Add pineapple to that list...

Hey, there's surprisingly a lot going on here (though you'd be forgiven for chugging it back without noticing). Indeed, Hefeweizens are beloved across the world for their easy, citrusy refreshment, splendid effervescence, and fruity undertones - adding pineapple only plays to the style's strengths and appeal. Kitschy though it may seem, it's kind of a genius move. And it sure as hell beats 'lager and lime' as a summertime quencher.

Pours opaque dirty yellow verging on gold. Thin white head, rapidly dissipating with no lacing left behind.
On the nose it has lots of pineapple, some clove and assorted citrus.
Tastes of pineapple, banana, some cloves and hints of wheat.
Overall, super-quaffable tasty summer beer, and above the average of what you'll find on most patios. Glad I bought 2.
