The best sort of sweet, grainy, and tangy Rye Beer. Clear dark orange-tinted amber in the tall Maredsous glass with a very nice fine-grained and persistent foam. Smell is a little musty with a cereal note. Quite spritzy in the mouth.

The flavor is full of the zingy rye flavor with a pleasant resiny hop taste. Moderately bitter, in fact I'd say it's quite nicely balanced between the sweet malty base and the hops. More floral and less grainy than some Rye brews. The hoppy tang and bitter aftertaste are right on the glide path.

This is a richer and more complex Pale Ale than most. Somehow these guys have hit on the right dose of rye to make the unpretentious style stand out. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at The Bottle Shop in Santa Barbara.

dark golden honey color, minimal head. some carbonation and better head on the subsequent pour. head looks creamy.
smell is sweet, bready. maybe some rye?
taste is definitely rye. not a bitter rye, but a semi-sweet, slightly bitter and almost pepper-y kind of flavor accenting the rye. I really like the subtleness of this one. I like rye, but most of the rye beers I've tried are bitter and nasty. this one is nice and flavored well by the rye. i'd recommend this one to others... maybe it's even time for a trip to ventura....

Thanks to analogchainsaw for this extra, one in a growing cadre of fine fellows across the country who send me stuff with rye in it. 22 oz. bottle split with my wife.

Over goes the bottle, out comes the beer, dark orange, with enough carbonation to qualify as beer. Nose is playing hide & seek: several lungfuls of air yield light rye, a little grain, with an almost burnt quality to it. Faint, but odd.

Country Line Rye Pale Ale is like eating toast crumbs. Moderate toastiness comes to the fore immediately. Beyond is a light earthiness that might be rye or shy hops, whole grain husks that have been baking in the California sun. Rye spiciness finally shows in the finish, along with moderate bitterness. Easy breezy to drink.

It's the finish that really sticks with you & salvages the beer from quiet mediocrity. Nothing ground-breaking, but an understated beer that one could drink out of trough. Good beer & I'm going to enjoy the rest of my glass.

Thanks to drewone for sharing this one at Wowcoolman’s tasting.

Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, and some rye and grain aromas. Taste is much the same with a slightly soapy flavor as well. There is a mild hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable but not something I would seek out again.

This has some great color, it's an amber orange, fairly clear with some fantasic lacing.

Smell isn't the best, kinda reminds me of the smell of an inside of a pizza hut.

Tastes good though, it's definitely got some nice flavor for a pale ale. The rye and a touch of caramel grains and fruitiness comes through. Mouthfeel is nice, it stays light, there's a touch of a medium body but I'd like a touch more stickyness for the color.

Overall, glad I tried it, I wouldn't mind trying it in a bottle sometime.

A local brew! Had plenty of these before so it was time for a review:

Pours a hazy deep amber with lots of carbonation and a head that frothed over the side of my mug with ease. Plenty of lacing and a head that sticks around for a long time.

Smells of muted apricots and rye, almost that sweet smell that some IIPAs have.

Tastes of raisins and rye, lots going on and definitely not a toned down pale ale. Lots of delicious hops and the bitterness to match. Mouthfeel isn't as chewy as you would expect, after you get over the initial wash of flavors it seems almost light.

Overall I'm impressed. Lots going on and definitely not pale in intensity. Light in the mouth (which isn't bad if that's what you're after) but sharply bitter for a PA.

Acquired from Mthomas84 via SS '11 so a big THANK YOU goes out to him!
Consumed 2/2 after a long two weeks in GA, poured in to a pint glass

A: This beer pours a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger of white head. Head retains at a decent pace leaving splotches of lacing on the glass.

S: Nose is caramlized malts, a hint of rye, a good deal of grain and grassy hops.

T: Taste starts with an undertone of rye and a big amount of grain. Caramel malts begin to come through, a good deal of breadiness and just a hint of citrus hop notes. Finish is grain, bread and earthy grass hops.

M: Medium body, medium carbonation, slightly chewy body, with a slick finish.

O: Goes down easy, tasty, not too filling, decent representation of style. All in all a good beer.
