chili beer, no heat. just a good roasted pablano. it has a golden to copper hue on the pour, but plenty of bubbles. smell is roasted green chilies at the farmers market! good malts too. flavor is surprising, no heat whatsoever. smooth and smokey, hops in the finish. feel is medium bodied and properly carbonated. i am impressed to taste only the essence of the pepper without the turnoff heat. not my favorite style, but id share this with any of my beer drinking mates. good effort!

I don't get super excited about chili beers, but this one was a winner.

Aroma-Great smell of roasted peppers and caramel malt.

Pour-Seemed a nice dark caramel color with a nice creamy head that was built.

Taste-This is where it was excellent, although the aroma was a nice roasted pepper smell, the flavor was awesome. It seemed to carry on through beginning to end with a wonderful balanced malt and a great roasted pepper flavor. It didn't have the kick of most pepper beers with the overwhelming spice level. So if your in the mood for a chili beer and don't want the overpowering spice a perfect beer.

Way to go Renegade!

It’s probably wise to preface this review with: I enjoy chili beers. If you don’t, this one isn’t the most potent, but there’s little doubt of what it is. Drinker beware.
Now that’s been covered…
Had this on tap at the Amato’s Ale House. I’ve had it a few times at the Renegade tap room, but never really made many notes. This one was fresh and tasted the same, FYI.
Arrived a dark amber, nearly brown color. Head’s pretty mild, but it laces the glass ring by ring.
The nose is definitely peppery, but there’s no real “heat” on the nose like some have. Plus, the nose is closer to a smoked chipotle sort of note rather than the typical fresh jalepeno or anahiem character.
The taste is ever so slightly sweet up front, pretty similar to the Mexican Vienna base they’re starting with. However things take a right turn into chili beer territory only a millisecond later. There’s no heat, but just a good smoky/roasty New Mexican chili joint character. The finish is dry and there’s very little residual sweetness at all. Just a lingering roasted pepper flavor and a little breadiness.
It’s one of the few chili beers where I’d dare say that you can have more than 1, which is pretty amazing. Even as a fan, I can’t really do that with (m)any others. Even better, it doesn’t kill your palate either.
I think this is a good calling card brew that might not be for everyone, but I like where they took it.
This is one I’ve gone back to several time and will keep going back to. the only real weakness is that it's a bit stronger than you might expect. At 6.5% ABV, it packs some punch even if you can't taste it.

Sampled at Renegade Brewing Company, on-tap.

The addition of the roasted poblanos is the most interesting part of this beer, with this being the core flavor. A decent dry-malt, earthy backbone and hints of hops.

I wonder if this wouldn't benefit from a slightly heavier hop addition, something a bit more citrusy to counterbalance the poblanos? A little heat from the peppers, but nothing that makes your mouth scream. A good start, and one that seems like, with a bit more tweaking, could elevate itself to the next level.

Renegade Brewing Company is a welcome addition to the Denver brewing scene. The tasting room only concept (with a rotating cast of mobile food vehicles parked outside) has gained steam in Colorado, and really sums up the whole idea of drinking locally. What's cooler than a neighborhood brewery these days?

Having said all that, Una Mas is a really nice beer overall. I enjoyed how the heat from the chiles crept across my palate slowly and deliberately, rather than blowing out my taste buds in one fell swoop. Nicely done.

I tried several beer samples during my visit, but this one really stood out for its balance and creativity. Nice work!

I had this one on tap at Renegade poured a hazy amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of peppers, caramel and earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted chili peppers, caramel and light earthiness with a smooth lingering chili pepper finish.
