From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #77 (June 2013):

LOOK: Hazed peachy amber, good froth

SMELL: Super dank, pomelos, star fruit, fresh grass, estery alcohol

TASTE: Smooth, orangey, hemp seeds, semi-chewy, spicy alcohol, floral, very bitter, tropical fruit, yeast, warming, juicy, biscuity, nutty grain, long hop sharpness; semidry, bitter finish

Chalk this one up to another brewer trying to boast 100-plus IBUs. We thought this phase of craft beer was over. Not exactly balanced at all here, but we are sure that wasn’t the brewer’s intention anyway. Somewhat drinkable and more or less of palate destroyer. Fun to drink? Yes.

12 oz can. Pours hazy copper orange with a big meringue white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is dank piney summit hops with some onion.

The flavor is a little sweet crystal malt with a big piney bitter finish. I do get some onion from the summit. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is slightly watery.

Overall, I've had this a few times and the summit hops can be a bit hit or miss. They can be a bit onioney at times. If not, this is really nice. Reminds me of Gubna - maybe a little more reserved other than alcohol.

12oz can served chilled into a shaker pint glass.

E3 is a very hazy yellow-orange color and semi-opaque because of all of the hop pollen. It has a thin layer of white head and leaves nice lacing as it settles.

Aroma is very hoppy but maybe not triple IPA hoppy. Nice grapefruit and other citrus along with that signature simcoe character.

Flavor is sweet up front leading to massive hop flavor and a big hit of bitterness. Again, maybe not triple IPA hoppy but, then again, maybe it's just a bit better balanced than I expected. It has a huge malt bill that lends sweetness and body and also helps to mellow out the bushels of hops that were likely used.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a low carbonation level which works well with the high alcohol. Definately a song beer but never hot.

Overall an impressive large IPA. To what degree may be a matter of opinion.

Yep, you guessed it. This beer was given to me by the previous reviewer, woodychandler. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a cloudy golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of hops, citrus, some malts. Taste is bitter up front, followed by a good malt balance, some citrus, alcohol is well hidden. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall be careful with this one, it is way to smooth and drinkable for 11% abv.

Had on site at their "Publik House" took a few notes on my phone.

Smell: Pungent dank and piney hops.

Appearance: translucent hazy yellow colored beer with a large white head.

Taste: Lots of citrus, floral, and spiciness.

Mouthfeel: High side of medium bodied and high side of medium carbonation. Clean finish.

Overall: Very easy to drink for a 11% beer. Was very happy about the outcome of this beer. Very well balanced and put together. Look forward to trying more from this brewery.

The beer pours a very white and creamy head that dissipates quickly. The beer itself is an opaque orange with brown notes. A lot of lacing is left after drinking some. The smell has orange notes and grapefruit hop notes with a toasty malt smell. The smell also has a slight sweet note to it but is pretty faint and overwhelmed by the other notes. The taste has similar notes to the smell but the grapefruit hop notes are much stronger as are the toasty and grainy malt notes. The beer is heavy bodied and thick with biting carbonation. A fantastic underrated beer and worth bringing back home if you can.

Renegade is pretty new to the Denver Beer scene. Great taproom and nice people! Decent beers, but nothing groundbreaking. I've watched this company grow as it started off on a totally different marketing platform under "Journey Brewing" then right before they opened it seems like someone shook them up and told them they needed to steal a few pages from Stone Brewing co circa 1998 and act like rebels/badasses and it really comes off unoriginal and out of place. Their marketing is cringe worthy while making fun of "yellow fizz drinkers" and "do the do's or dont do the do's", and on this lovely can it reads "offensively delicious" and "here's to the renegades".. it'll give you douchechills so badly you'll want to brownbag every beer you get from them. All of that aside, I love this beer! When I have a craving for big hops (and wanting to support a local brewery) I'll look past all of that and slap down my hard earned dough on this well balanced hop bomb. Hits hard on all fronts and is by far the best thing to come out of that brewery to date.
