Oh goodness my,

Recalling my mental notes from the Beachwood Release Party for this one and good heavens was this one heck of an IPA.

Appearance: Golden color, clear with little, or no haze what so ever.

Smell: The smell on this beer is unbelievable. Literally, no matter what I say, I know I wouldn't be doing it justice. Overwhelming tropical notes of citrus, grapefruit, and mango. Like a sweet and irresistible tropical breeze. I've never smelled a Double IPA better than this one, and I couldn't wait to start drinking it.

Taste: An explosion of dank fruits, citrus, malts, and a medium but balanced hop finish. The taste isn't nearly as intense as the smell but it definitely does not disappoint. Coming in at 10% abv this beer is way too easy to drink.

Mouthfeel: Sticky with a full mouthfeel across the palate.

Overall: One of the best double IPA's I've had to date. This beer is amongst the great's in its class and deserves to be treated as such. Cannot recommend highly enough and I'm pretty bummed about how limited it's availability was.

Bottle pour at the DTLA bottle share held at Beer Belly in Los Angeles, CA.

Thanks to SoCalBeerIdiot for sharing this one.

Pours a hazy gold with a foamy white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thick rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, citrus zest, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and herbal flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty but has a much better hop presence in the aroma.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ. Here's to seven years of Beachwood! On to the beer:

Orange yellow colored and topped with a frothy top. The aroma can be described as hop juice with a dose of alcohol. That hop juice described in the aroma breaks into specifics on the palate, primarily into the classic trio of orange/tangerine/citrus. This is one thick, juicy Double IPA, and despite its full body, much of the alcohol is hidden and it's a drinkable ale. Very nice!

Had this on tap at Beachwood LB for the release party the other night, but reviewing from the bottle opened just a few minutes ago.

BAM the smell hits you the second you pop the cap. Fruity, with guava maybe some orange blossom with overall warm perfumey textures. Had to sniff it a few times on the way in for that first sip.

Pour was nice, very little head at first then a small half inch puff grew. Somewhat uneven bubbling, but what surprised me was how light in color the beer is. Its kinda yellow, betraying the beast that lies within.

I was a little worried the flavor would have mellowed out after a few days in the bottle (bottled 12/16 LOL irrational I know) but its a very pleasant drink. Upfront you get the powerful bitter citric menage of 7 hops duking it out in a bottle, but shortly after that a soft floweriness covers the pallet.

What I am noticing however, is a bready, somewhat grainy finish. Maybe due to tongue puckering from the very bright citrus tones, but I remember a friend of mine complaining about the same issue of texture the other night. Otherwise, for 10% it goes down like a dream. Alcohol is not noticeable at all. Flavor overall is extremely pleasing, but may be overwhelming for some drinkers. This bottle is still very fresh, which grants me a subtle green undertone that I enjoy.

Beachwood does it again!! Word on the street is they sold out within a few hours at the Long Beach location. Glad I picked up two.
