Pours a strong, large, off-white creamy head. Retention is fantastic. Brew is a very clear yellow-gold. Tons of thick, spider web lacing.

Hoppy aroma with a pale malt backbone. Floral, slightly catty, and some lighter pine.

Relatively light and bright flavor: citrus peel and pulp, pine, slightly dank, all riding on a honey-and-biscuit pale malt profile. Mosaic hops?

Crisp and smooth mouthfeel; fairly light, with a hint of syrupy smoothness.

This is a very good IPA, and although it doesn't seem to bring anything fresh to the table, that shouldn't take away from consistent, tasty, solid goodness.

Reviewing the Thrillseeker IPA from Beachwood BBQ & Brewing out of Long Beach, California. This "west cost-style" IPA is generously hopped with a mix of Chinook, Summit, Centennial, and Simcoe hops.

Score: 90

Bottled the last week of September 2014. Served in a Kate the Great snifter and enjoyed on 10/13/14. Thank you Jazz for sending me this one!

Appearance: Pours a clean, transparent honey color with a finger of white head that settles to a thin, coating layer. Amazing lacing and retention. Quite a beautiful IPA. 5/5

Smell: A big citrus blast followed by a light earthy kick that rounds out the aroma. Orange, grapefruit, citrus, sweet malt, mango, pine and bready malt. A touch herbal too. Quite pleasant. 4/5

Taste: Earthy and bitter upfront, followed by orange rind, lemon and grapefruit on the finish. Lingering grapefruit and bitterness. This is a really pleasant, bitterly citrusy IPA. 4/5

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, appropriate carbonation. Watery/juicy mouthfeel with a dry, bitter, and slightly astringent finish. This IPA has a pleasantly bitter kick with a lingering finish. 4/5

Overall: An unexpectedly pleasant IPA. I saw Summit on the label and expected to hate this, but I did not get any onion character -- just a pleasantly complex earthiness mixed amongst a nice citrusy, bitter IPA profile. This is my kind of IPA.

Cost: $8 for a 22 oz (bomber) bottle.

10/11/2014 - Beachwood Brewing - Thrillseeker IPA - Poured into a Dogfish Head Spiegelau

A - The pour and look of this beer is amazing. The head has an amazing level of proteins. This is one of the only beers where the head extends past the top of my glass a good couple centimeters and doesn't spill over. An amazing clear golden yellow with cotton white head. The "stereotypical" beer appearance.
S - Pine, Citrus, Mango and Pineapple. A little astringency.
T - Biscuit, Citrus, Pine, Mango. A good amount of bitterness, I think this is more on the double IPA side, 1.5 IPA. Very smooth with a lasting bitterness. A tad bit of astringency.
M - Medium all around, medium carbonation, medium mouth feel, medium amount of creaminess, very easy to swallow.
O - Not my favorite IPA, but hell, this is a damn fine IPA. Great amount of bitterness with a fine malt background to project those hops. Style-wise this is an amazing beer if you love IPAs. If you're not fan of IPA's, I wouldn't suggest this beer. I personally love this beer. I think I'm developing a fetish for Beachwood, haven't had a brew from them I haven't liked.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip. This was bottled on 09/29/14 so is less than 2 weeks old.

Appearance: Pours a fairly transparent medium amber/honey color and leaves a couple fingers of fluffy, white head that linger forever. (4.25)

Smell: Pine, resin, honey, biscuity malts, a bit of mango and citrus as well. (4.5)

Taste: Resin, pine, honey, biscuity malts, pear, mango, citrus. Similar to the nose. Nice, smooth finish (4.25)

Mouth-feel: Medium carbonation with a light to medium, slightly creamy body. (4.25)

Overall: Tasty piney and fruity hops with a nice malt presence as well. Really well balanced IPA. (4.25)
