On tap at Tony’s Darts Away in Burbank.
A delightful beer. Full of espresso, dark toasty goodness and dark chocolate.
A prime example of the style. Extremely well done.

2016 bottle poured into a snifter
A: Pours nearly black with a frothy khaki head that settles to a light layer and leaves some nice lacing.
S: Roasty, spicy coffee, herbal pine, earthy, bittersweet chocolate, a hint of smoke, and a touch of toffee sweetness.
T: Roasty, strong hit of espresso, peppery spicy, earthy, slightly herbal, faint smoke, dark bittersweet chocolate, and a touch of toffee sweetness.
M: Medium to full body, mild to moderate carbonation, nice creaminess, alcohol is completely hidden.
O: You can tell this bottle's got a little age on it from the way the coffee has evolved, but it's still very enjoyable. Nicely balanced, the flavor gets deeper as it warms.

Type: 8-oz. draft
Glass: Clear skinny half pint glass
From: Hoffer’s Cigar Bar in La Mesa, Calif.
Price: $7
Purchased: March 23, 2018
Consumed: March 23, 2018
Reviewed as: Russian Imperial Stout
Misc.: Part of a Beachwood tap takeover.
Had this at Hoffer’s as part of a four half-pour review day. Beachwood was one of my favorites and was looking forward to trying this one, which I had seen many times in beer stores and a few times on tap. Had never quite pulled the trigger though. Untappd description read, “Russian Imperial Espresso Stout made with Elida coffee from Portola Coffee Labs.” OK, let’s go.
Poured a dark brown-to-very dark color with one finger of khaki frothy head. No noticeable bubbles coming up, although it was dark at Hoffer’s. Decent watery lacing. Good spotty retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled toasted coffee malts, toffee, dark chocolate syrup, semi-char wood, molasses, licorice, anise and cocoa. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted roasty coffee malts, dark chocolate syrup, semi-char wood, molasses, toffee, dark fruit and cacao. (Taste - 4.50)
Full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, warming finish. (Feel - 4.50)
This was just a lovely beer. Would like to have this again and would like to have a bourbon barrel-aged version if they have one. (Overall - 4.50)
