From Growler into a tulip glass. Fresh from the Brewery. Pours is a yellowish copper with an incredible fluffy white head that leaves thick curtains of lace as it settles down, incredible retention.
When I put my nose into the glass I get very traditional west coast IPA, citrus fruits, some tropical notes of mango and pineapple and a crazy blast of hops, lots of dank sweet hops, it's a great nose. Drinking Laurel is another great exercise in classic west coast IPA, huge blasts of hops, biting but perfectly balanced by the abundance of citrus fruits that explode in wave after wave of juicy delicious sweetness. The malt bill keeps things in line but lets the fruit from the four hops play out. Another remarkable IPA from Julian and the Beachwood team, they just keep getting better and better and I for one am along for the ride.

Draft service into a shaker pint glass at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach.

A: Clear, light amber color with one finger of persistent white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass.

S: Crisp toasted malt is a minor but included component of the smell, compared to the dynamic West Coast hops that dominate. The coniferous qualities are deep, with a dusting of slightly funky tropical fruit that contribute variety and interest.

T: Begins barely off-dry, with soft bready malt and intense floral hop aromatics. Acidity is understated into the drying middle, where hop flavors turn very piney. Early flavors are somewhat resurgent during the mildly bitter finish, with aromatic tropical fruit balanced by pale malt and dry minerality but still helping to develop a lingering sensation of stickiness.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, slightly sticky on the palate, with low carbonation.

D/O: A spectacular, Simcoe-kissed contribution of a West Coast IPA. Hop character is masterfully cultivated, with all the late addition qualities of Alpine Duet but turned up to greater intensity. Malt is understated yet noteworthy as well, while acidity remains sensibly out of the picture. This beer looks great, smells great, tastes great, and yet manages to be considerably more than just the sum of its parts.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ

Pours a clear amber color with a sticky white head. Intense pine and floral hop aromas. Very resinous and perhaps even a bit herbal. Almost no malt is to be found here. Just a touch of tropical fruit, quite a bit of grapefruit peel. The flavor is quite bitter, moreso than expected. Intense pine, herbal, and resinous hop qualities. Grapefruit peel and maybe a little pineapple on the finish. Again, almost no malt. Medium bodied with medium carbonation and a dry finish.

Had on tap.
light golden color with a minimal white head.
strong hop smell followed by a citrus scent
Very strong hop taste that instantly attacked my taste buds. Would be happy to buy a 6 pack if I could find it.
