On-tap at Beachwood BBQ

The pour is a clear golden color with a white head. Not really my favorite Beachwood beer. There’s a light sugar aroma, a hint of toffee, and a mild banana note, too. Maybe some straw and yeast. The flavor has a sweet malt character of toffee and bread, maybe some sugar in there, too. There is only a mild banana, some straw, and a touch of yeast. (375 characters)

On tap at Beachwood Long Beach.

A: Lighter gold in color with a frothy white head.

S: Bold apple esters with lesser notes of pear and white grape. Bready malt is sweet and sugary. I detect just a dash of alcohol with peppery notes.

T: Apple and pear accompany floral and lightly spicy pepper notes. Malt is bready in character and there's a low bitterness with a restrained sugary sweetness. Alcohol is very well hidden. I get just a little banana.

M: Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: A well done Tripel. Very enjoyable. (555 characters)

On tap at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours a clear honey orange with a white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks and dots of lace form everywhere on the drink down. Smell is of grain, honey, and some fruity aromas. Taste is the same along with some yeast flavors and an alcohol kick on the finish. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer but the smell is somewhat muted. (470 characters)

Another incredibly well-balanced big beer from Julian. Wonderful blend of sweet and spice characteristics backed by a clean rather than phenolic backbone. Very smooth and creamy, this Tripel is highly drinkable, leaving you nothing but the remnant spidery lacing up the glass. As stated above, phenolic character is downplayed, but a yeast presence is noticeable. A highly enjoyable West Coast version of the style. (415 characters)
