On tap at Beachwood Long Beach. Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance is a toasty brown color. A nice foamy head sits on top of the glass. Smells delicious. There are sweet malts characteristic of an ESB followed by a nice hop background. The taste follows the nose. The Maris Otter malts mingle nicely with the added caramel malts to give it a sweet and quaffable profile. It wouldn't be a Beachwood beer without a noticeable hop presence. The hops are there, but it retains its ESB character. The hops balance the malt nicely. My girlfriend is not a fan of hoppy beers at all, and even she really liked this beer.

Overall this is a very drinkable and extremely pleasant ESB. I've never really been a fan of ESB, but I'm definitely a fan of this. Cheers to Julian and the whole Beachwood crew!

On tap at the Library Alehouse

A: caramel. Not much head, slightly hazy

S: sweet caramel malt, and tons of it. Toffee, very faint hop aroma

T: bready upfront. For some reason this has a big lager flavor to me, which is somewhat offputting. I taste the toffee in the background but something seems off here. May have to re-review

M: pretty light

O: not impressed. Doesn't remind me of an ESB at all. I need to re-review

Dark, clear amber color in the pint shaker. Not much of a head, which for once is more of an authentic touch of the traditional style to go with the all-English hops.

Flavor starts with plenty of malt and a robust, ruddy-faced body. Moderately sweet, followed by an expansive mix of hoppy flavors. A touch of resiny taste but mostly dark fruit and some grape seed tannins. Tangy with a touch of mineral sensation. Finishes with a little quinine bitterness, and then it's on to the next sweet, malty sip.

Altogether this is a warm and richly flavored concoction that is not overly strong. Plenty of hop interest without excessive bitterness, and one of the better homages to British inspiration. On tap at Toronado in San Diego.

On-tap at the original Beachwood BBQ, on to the beer:

A thick head was presented on top of an orangish red colored beer, a frothy head which lasts for a good while and leaves patches of lace around the glass. The nose is a little sweet, buttery, and earthy, well mixed between the flavors. It gets even more fun in the taste; sure, what beer doesn't, but I was impressed how well everything came together. It has an overall full flavor that doesn't fatigue, providing notes of caramel, minerals, earth, butterscotch. The alcohol is buried in this one, and its medium body with low carbonation fits the style. This is a great ESB, and my new favorite beer from the Beachwood crew.,

On-tap at Beachwood I,

A: Pours a light amber with a medium slightly off-white head. Real nice lace on this pint.

S: Maris Otter biscuit and caramel, with soft earthy hop component.

T: Nice biscuity malt flavour. Earth and grass offer a pleasing hop flavour. Very reminiscent of Fuller's ESB which is always a good thing.

M: Medium-bodied, frothy soft carbonation. Very easy drinking, no hint of the 6.1%

O: One of Beachwood's best beers yet. This is has the classic flavour of an English pint and is staying true to that country. Really well done.
