Thanks to beachstrength49 for the growler.

Appearance: Very slight chill haze on a dark gold color. Head is bright-white, fluffy, and dense. Drops to nothing in short order. Leaves some small hints of lacing.

Smell: Straight west coast. Loaded with citrus and pine needle. Bitter resin. Grapefruit pith and flesh. Some tangerine and pith. Bitter resin. A bit dank. Some backing alcohol. Malts are a bit light and sweet. Some caramel and biscuit notes. Serious weed on the back.

Taste: Aggressively bitter. Heavy on the citrus. Grapefruit, orange, and some tangerine. Pine needle. Oily resin and a solid pithy bitterness. Almost sits like peppermint. Dank and laden with weed. Heavy citrus. Bready. Undercooked dough. Caramelized malt sweetness. A ton of alcohol on the back, but not really hot. Warming pushes more tangerine.

Mouthfeel: Oily with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Slightly dry on the finish. Slick.

Overall: I'd take out a subscription.

A straight up west coast IPA. Bitter and citrus. Not too aggressive, but definitely not nice either. Damn fine.

12 ounce draft pour in a shaker glass.
Appearance: Lacquered teak with beautiful golden highlights. Strong, firm head that obediently stays put for most of the pint.
Smell: Strong aroma of freshly cut, sweet tangerines, followed by a hint of honey.
Taste: The beauty here is in its simplicity. The flavor is a fairly straightforward citrus bitterness that rises and falls fairly quickly. No real malt character to speak of.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, medium carbonation.
Overall: This beer was developed by Beachwood to support the Ales for ALS foundation. A portion of the proceeds from this release go to support research into Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Apparently the hops used were all “experimental” varieties, which Beachwood received from Loftus Ranches and Hopunion for their participation in this worthwhile cause. The beer is very well balanced and easy to drink (I would not have guessed it hosted 99 IBUs). It proudly features its unnamed hops, but does not beat your face with them. I sure hope I can grab another pint of this before it’s gone…

On tap at the LA Beer Week Kickoff Festival held at Exposition Park in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a hazy golden-orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, earth, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, herbal hop, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a great mix of citrus and herbal hop characteristics all around.

Serving type: on tap.

On tap at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach. I was hoping this would be a good hoppy west coastIPA and I was not let down. Piney aroma, lost of hops. Flavor was piney and hoppy and dank, nice. Mouthfeel was a tad thin but overall this was just what I was hoping to get while I was in southern CA. Yum.

On-tap at Beachwood I,

A: Pours amber with a medium creamy white head, nice thick lace.

S: Heavy passionfruit with undercurrents of pine and citrus.

T: Definitely in the West Coast style this is all about the hops. Tropical heavy especially again with the passionfruit, there is a Snapple like quality to this at times. Notes of pineapple and guava again with pine throughout.

M: Medium-bodied, highly drinkable, crisp and refreshing.

O: One of the best Beachwood IPAs so far and supports a great cause, what's not to like.
