Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, or CHP as we call it, is a dessert in a glass. It is a rich, robust porter bursting with luscious chocolate and hazelnut. Notes of coffee and caramel round out this delicious treat.

The pour is jet black with a tan head of foam. The taste is just as described, chocolate & hazlenut alongside some roasted malt. Cheers! A-

Nitro pour at the Taphouse. Milky dark brown, small creamy head settles out. Aroma favors the nuts, while taste brings in some dark chocolate bitterness. Then sweetness, and the nitro pour makes this creamy. Sweet and nutty throughout.

From a can. A.dark pour and a dark, roasty aroma. Very roasty hazelnut flavor. The chocolate takes the edge off the smokiness but it isn't overly sweet.

Poured this into a point glass, and was greeted by 2" of head, great lacing, and a really lovely black brew.

The aroma of hazelnuts is immediately detectable, as it the chocolate. Aside from the malts, that's about all I smell. Complex? No. Inviting and tempting? Oh my yes.

Taste is great. A hint of sweetness to this one, but only enough to compliment the chocolate and hazelnuts. It has the coffee-like bitterness you expect to find in a porter, but again, just enough to balance the sweetness without being too astringent. The nutty character from the hazelnuts, the toasty coffee, and the malty cocoa work really well together.

This on the lighter side of medium bodied. Carbonation is just right, and man is it smooth.

Overall: Highly recommended. A number of breweries have tried their hand at porters with hazelnut flavors, and some do it better than others. Heretic is one of them.

8 ball black with a tall and dense tan nitro head.

Velvety smooth and slightly tangy without being acrid, it works well enough, sort of like a Sam Smith's, but without the complexity.

Time for desert and a pour from a pint can into a clear Imperial pint glass. A good sign; chocolate and hazelnut are immediately picked up by the nose. The brew is black coffee brown, like just about every other porter, including the desert porters. Really not much of a head to describe. There is a nice sweet roasted malt backing to smell, but the chocolate and hazelnut are obvious. It drinks smoothly, but not richly. The flavors are there, but in a strange way, they're shallow and not ingrained fully into the overall taste. The sweetness level is at an enjoyable low level. It's not absent, it's just right for enjoying a porter with chocolate and hazelnut flavors. True to the description, there are also faint notes of coffee and caramel. Overall, it's a taste treat for those that like those added flavors in a malty brew. It has been done better.

Bottle pour- root beer brown with short khaki head and minimal lacing. Nose is sweet and nutty with hints of roasty malt. Taste follows with chocolate and coffee that linger on a light roasty finish.

Having once lived in Fairfield and knowing that this brewery hooks it up for my high school alumni events, this beer was an easy one to take a chance on a single can.

Pours dark brown in one glass (long/skinny), black in the other (short, fat). Interesting. 1/2" lighter brown head. I think it looks good. The aroma stays true to the titular namesake of the beer, for both chocolate and hazelnut came across. Bonus points for some coffee and caramel notes at play.

Taste goes in the same direction, everything claimed exists and not in inconsequential esoteric ways, they are there, prominent yet in harmony with each other. Hint of dark fruit in the mouth feel moreso than the taste. Doesn't rely on sugary tricks to make the mouth feel smooth enough despite having a good roasted malt presence. Not overhopped or too bitter.

I think this was a pretty good beer at a pretty good price. Thanks for supporting WCW!

You know, this is one of those beers that I’ve walked by on the shelf for a long time without even considering to grab it. I’m not sure why since I love hazelnut, and I had a really great hazelnut stout at Long Live Beerworks a few years back. In any case, I went into the store the other day with an anything goes approach and ended up with this. Let’s see what it’s all about

Pours very dark brown with 3 fingers of dark tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing

You can really smell the authenticity of the nut character here, they feel fully roasted and used to their full potential. I'm picking up on aromas of creamy milk chocolate, roasted hazelnut, brown bready malt, toffee, a hint of earthy hops, and even a touch of black pepper for balance

Honestly all the same applies in taste, that roast comes through in the end to remind you this isn't supposed to be some over the top pastry porter. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting milk chocolate, light roast coffee, vanilla, light raisin, peppery hops, and light toffee. The swallow brings notes of roasted hazelnut, vanilla creme, toast, light roast coffee, cocoa powder, and a touch of charred malt

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a beer that walks the line between smooth and roasty. Finishes neutral but coats the mouth a bit

This is a nicely done nut porter. It's not overbearing, and it adds more to the roast than it does the sweetness. I'll get this again
