Dark reddish brown in color, Heretic Evil Twin Red Ale pours to a reddish brown color with a head of foam that is nice and solid, leaving some lace on the glass as you consume. The nose on this beer is quite pronounced, with scents of pale malt, fruit, pine, and alcohol.
Heretic Evil Twin offers tastes of caramel, pine, toasted malt, some zesty hop character, and some citrus/orange peel flavor that dominates the finish. I found the flavor more pronounced and more flavorful as the beer warmed up just a bit with the flavors coming through well at the temp of about 50 degrees. But regardless of temperature, the taste was well represented and certainly better than the average beer.
Heretic Evil Twin is a medium to full bodied brew with a solid flavor that is complex and interesting. The taste might be a little more bitter than some may prefer and a little more flavorful than some may expect, but I find it a tasty beer overall with many good things to offer.

Appearance-poured from a bottle into a brandy glass, dark ruby read sparkling with a half a finger of white head that dissipated rather quickly.
Aroma- sweet traces of maple syrup and jolly rancher fruit candy. With an all too familiar tropical hop aroma. I smell this in a lot of beers I like. Slight traces of chocolate or carob.
taste- wow rather smooth i would say that this beer is the closest i have ever tasted to a cherry tootsie pop. honestly its not sticky sweet but has almost a cordial type taste to it. the hops take on a medicinal ( but not unpleasant note think jagermeister)). I know this description wouldn't sell it for me but it is a very good tasting beer.
Mouthfeel- medium to dry, it could be a very fast drinking beer because i perceive a slightly lower level of carbonation. There is a slight alcohol warmth as well.
Overall- it s a very unique beer, I think calling it a west coast red under sells it. This beer taste like it has some depth or age to it. The on the bottle description is more accurate " its malty with out being too sweet and hoppy without being too bitter" paraphrased. I would gladly grab another! I would pair it with a pork tenderloin that had some sort of fruit compote garnish, thanksgiving turkey ( as a sub for cranberries), or after getting a flat top in the old barbershop (that's when i would always have a tootsie pop)
