Another Heretic beer from inflatablechair, thanks! Poured from bomber into imperial pint... No bottle date

A- Nice rusty amber color with a very large 2 inch, densely packed head. Great lacing and incredibly stable head.

S- Wow, crisp hops. Tropical and cirtus with floral and slight piney qualities. Nice biscuit and toasted bread presence as well, balanced.

T/M- The most balanced amber I've had... And imperial? This is dangerously drinkable. Moderate bitterness on the middle palate with a grassy floral flavor. Melanoiden flavors show as well with the bready backbone. Finishes with piney, earthy hops in a palate cleansing fashion. Medium body with decently high carbonation and dry finish.

O- One of best ambers I've had. Balanced, complex, showcase of toasty flavors and subtle hops. No wonder Jamil is so award winning. I often find ambers either being too hoppy they are like IPAs, or too malty that they are like a watery brown and they lose all identity- not this one though!. I would buy this on tap like crazy if we had it locally.

Pours a deep reddish tinged brown with a sticky tightly formed half finger beige head atop, just rich looking. The aromas just don't jump out like I was hoping,I get some earthiness and faint resin. What a great creamy feel wich I really was taken back by.Malt driven up front with some caramel and brown sugar notes before earthy and more of a leafy hopped finish, not a big left coast citric red.Wow this beer is all over the place...in a pretty good way,it looks and feels great and the flavors are not typical.

The Beers of California

#40

Bottled Date: 3/26/12

A: Deep burgundy brown with two fingers of khaki foam which sticks around for a while.

S: Strawberry jam, caramel, brown sugar along with a nice earthiness and fresh pine needles.

T: Strong sweetness which follows the nose: strawberry syrup, caramel, and brown sugar. There are moments of fresh, pine, and earthy bitterness that attempts to balance the brew but overall the brew favors sweetness with a strong phenolic quality, that, intertwined with the strawberry syrup, is reminiscent of cough medicine.

M: Medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation and syrupy linger.

O: This beer was a bit of let down being overly sweet with overbearing phenolic notes that were reminiscent of childhood illness and unpleasant cough syrup experiences. Was not mindful of the bottle date when picking this up and will try and get a fresher bottle and revisit this brew in the future.

On Tap at the Brewery

A - Dark reddish/brown with an one-finger tan/beige head. The head takes a bit of time to diminish leaving long lasting streaky-white lacing down the entire glass.

S - Plenty going on here - Toasty/yeasty malt with hints of grapefruit, pine, and dark caramel. There are also some earthy notes in there that I couldn't quite put my finger on.

T - Sweet and dark caramel malt right off the bat. The taste finishes with just a touch of hop bitterness to round things off and make you want another sip. Very balanced with no one taste taking the lead.

M - Medium carbonation and body. Full flavor but this beer does not feel heavy in any way.

O - This is fast becoming one of my favorite Red Ales. Well crafted and everything is nicely balanced. And the bonus is that the brewery is about 20+ minutes away.

Pours two fingers of head on a clear dark straw colored body.
The aroma is rich grapefruit and lemon with some brown sugar in the background.
The taste starts with big lemon bitterness, but the (slightly caramel) malt quickly tames it. Great balance.
The texture is softer.
Great profile.
