Tasted at brewery and again from growler poured into pint glass

A - Beautiful copper/orange with a slender beige head

S - Very shy on the nose - some citrus, toasty malt and some other spices which I assume is the rye. The nose did open up slightly after warming up some but still was subdued.

T - Toasty malt and rye right off the bat followed up with some soft bitter hops.

M - Such a refreshing beer! There really is a a lot of flavor packed into this 4.4% brew. Toasty malts and rye, smooth and clean with just a touch of crisp/bitterness from the hops that makes you want another sip, followed by another...etc.

O - This is my first taste of a rye beer and I was impressed. This is a great "lawn mower" beer - easy to drink with plenty of flavor. Very refreshing.

22oz bottle, nice to see more Cali breweries being repped up here in Alberta.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber hue, with three fingers of puffy, broadly foamy, and certainly bubbly ecru head, which leaves some sudsy roiling sea froth lace around the glass as it quickly subsides.

It smells of dank, wet pine tree needles, rye bread, grainy pale malt, subtle orange and white grapefruit rind citrus, and further leafy, weedy hops. The taste is still somewhat dank straight off, the damp pine forest floor essence predominating, with some spicy rye graininess, more tame bready pale malt, a wan muddled citrus fruitiness, and fading earthy, leafy hops.

The carbonation is quite restrained and unobtrusive in its low-grade tingling, the body medium-light in weight, and smooth enough, nothing really stooping to interfere here. It finishes off-dry, the mixed malt and fruitiness of the hops thankfully starting to drown out the dank.

Yeah, it's pretty clear that certain musky, dank hop strains so favoured by brewers all up and down the west coast of late, do not agree with me. That said, this is still a pretty enjoyable rye ale, the adjunct grain doing well to integrate with the whole, while the other hop esters prop up an otherwise lost cause.

Pours a half finger of head on a medium straw colored body.
The aroma is a bit mild: pine and spice.
The taste has mild bitterness with some black pepper.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
Easy to drink.

Pours rich copper with a fading head.
Nose shows lots of malt with bready characters and some spicy, toasty rye. Lovely. Also some soft earthy hops.
Very similar flavours, with powerful toasty and spicy rye alongside a spicy, earthy hop hit. Great length.
Nice moderate carbonation.

Picked up at the COOP Sunday night... poured into my slip tulip tonight... the brew is very clear orange/amber... decent white head... 1/2" head.. spotty lacing.

Nose is very promising.. toasty malt... rye is there and my buddies will give me shit, but honestly a bit of a dry "spicy" note... very dry brew with a bunch of malty background essence.. no real "caramel"... very malt centric with just enough citrus to balance.

Flavor mirrors the nose with some dry toasty elements.. citrus hops... the rye is present and helps to add some structure to the maltiness... rye malt is above present and the citric hops finish forever.... with warmth, a bit of perfumy floral hoppiness...

Surprised this one has a great finish for such a low ABV.. very VERY drinkable.. Loving it.

This is a real nice beer to look at, but it was downhill after that for me.

Now I really like rye beers. I love Smitten, Cane and Ebel, Founder's Red Rye, any of the several excellent rye ales from Reuben's in Seattle. All those beers are bursting with spicy rye aroma and flavor.

Gramarye isn't bursting with anything. Both smell and taste are minimal. The beer is thin and watery. There's a little rye and a little bitterness in the finish, but that's about it.

It is nice to look at, but the taste just isn't there ... think of this like a rye cousin of Coors.

On tap at Toronado in SF.
