A: Amber, dark orange ale. Large head which disappears slowly into thin lacings.

S: Nice, fuity (citruses), some esters, typical Chimay yeasts.

T: Not as booming as other trappist ales, but quite well balanced between malty sweetness from caramel malts, fruity notes and yeasty taste. Light bitter aftertaste with quite a long finish.

M: Medium bodied with nice carbonation. Not too light. Just nice.

O: Not the best Trappist ale, for sure, but a well done, good , with its own particularities, refreshing beer.

Well, hell, here we go again… I’m at a family party and I keep hearing my girlfriend’s ex boyfriend’s name (I’m in France and Raul doesn’t speak French). Either way, I’m gonna drain this thing even though it’s pretty much average like one of those Hadid chicks before plastic surgery.

Shared bottle at RBNAG 2011. Golden-brown colour. Spicy and "typically Belgian" aroma. Pleasant and moderately spicy flavour, not too sweet, again "typically Belgian". A decent trappist, but not of the trailblazing kind.

L: Large head at pour which later dissipates to a one finger head head. Looks hazy copper/brown. Okaish lacing.
S: Caramel, brown burnt sugar, bubblegum, nuts, apricot, pear.
T: Brown/white unrefined sugar, caramel, fruits (bananas, apricots)
F: Med/high carb, light/med body with noticeable bitterness. I would prefer if it would be tad less bitter. Abv is hidden.
O: Nice belgian strong ale.

Pours a hazy amber color with a big top of white head that dissolves slowly and leaves some sticky lacings on the glass.
Aroma is caramel, ripe pears and apples, yeast, sugar and spices.
The taste is dry and fruity with a strong malty background. Sugary and yeasty spice notes, before it finishes bitter with some herbal hop notes. The flavour is nice but it ends up a little weak in the finish and aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is soft and smooth with a medium carbonation and a medium body.
A good enough take on the style, but lacks a little to be among the best ones.

Large bottle on New Year's Day 2019.

The beer has a lovely, clear, copper-colored body topped by a moderately good off-white head.

The Belgian link is evident in the distinctive yeast character that resembles corresponding ales from Westmalle and Chimay in both the aroma and the flavor. Speaking of the flavor, it has a relatively large dynamic range, beginning quite sweet but ending with moderate+ bitterness. Caramel malts dominate but are joined by hints of raisins and other dried fruits, light spices and mild earthy-herbal hops. This is much more like a dubbel than a typical Belgian Pale Ale.

Medium+ body with lively carbonation.
