I went here while visiting family in Syracuse, its a regular convenience store gas station. The selection is awesome! i found ale smith speedway stout and eclipse stout, they even had growler fills of Founders Breakfast stout!!! i think this is a nice hidden gem and worth going to! only rated the atmosphere 3 because after all it is a gas station. Overall i think its a definite stop for me every time i come back!

Went to this place based on my friends recommendation. This place has an excellent selection, possibly the best in the area. There are more single bottles here than anywhere else in the city, and they even have tasting ever 2nd friday of the month (or something to that effect). My only gripe with the place is that it is a tad overpriced. What might be a 10.99 four or six pack at wegmans is likely to be a dollar to a dollar fifty more for the item. I will keep coming back here to look for things I can't get anywhere else, but if I can find it at Wegmans its likely to be cheaper and I'll buy it there.

This place is a convenience store/gas station located in the outskirt of Syracuse. Doesn’t look like the kind of place where you will find a great selection of craft beers but selection is quite adequate. Founders, Dogfish, Mikkeller, Firestone, Stone can all easily be found in this store. Price were fair to somewhat pricey for some of the imports but that just maybe me not being use to paying so much for imports. There was a growler station though I didn’t find that the choice was terribly exciting. I would definitely make the stop here again if I ever was in the area.

Basically a large gas-station type convenience store. Some history here but I'm not hip to specifics.

A - Again, a gas-station vibe, so it's not terribly enticing, but it is clean and people there seemed friendly, so it's definitely not as bad as could be.

Q - I didn't check dates on beers, Im not a super hop-head, so usually freshness isn't my largest concern. The beers they had were a mix of top-notch and 30-rack type.

S - I asked a woman if there was any way to locate beers they didn't have, and she was very friendly, and took down my number to call me if they found out more. Will see if they actually respond, but even the fact that they offered is above and beyond what many stores offer.

S - Not a huge mess of beer, but a decent smattering of cool things. I picked up some Ten-Fidy and Fort. Neither of which I can find in my area.

V - $36 for a bottle of Fort and 4 pack of Ten-Fidy. Not crazy pricey, but not cheap either.

Update: They called me back, letting me know he has a bottle of Bitches Brew coming in specially for me and he'll hold it about a month till I can get back to 'Cuse to pick it up. Great follow through and customer service.

The Byrne dairy replaced the old Galeville grocery store, but it was nice that they kept the name and maintained some of the history associated with the place. Much bigger than the old grocery store, better spread out over a larger area. The beer selection is slightly lesser than the previous store, but that is understandable. Not to take anything away from Byrne dairy for maintaining the tradition of keeping some really good beer at this store. They have some good 22 oz bombers and pre-filled growlers for sale along with the usual 4 and 6-packs. The one thing missing and would be nice is to have a mix-n-match section. I think it would really add a nice touch to this store. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the vicinity.

This is a good spot in the Syracuse area. Stopped there for the first time last night, and I will definitely be returning. Though I generally consider the atmosphere of a beer store to be pretty marginal in the scheme of things, I'll say that it was "good" because it's somewhere between being a grocery store, a dedicated beer store, and a corner store. It's essentially an overgrown corner store with a massive beer section, but it's nice and wide-open, well-lit, and maneuverable, more like a grocery store. The cooler section is very large, actually, which definitely adds to the atmosphere -- the prospect of cold beer just makes it more attractive, doesn't it?

Beer quality is also good. This would be a more important question if they had taps and growler fills, but they don't. For a bottle-only store, the only thing that "quality" can really pertain to is the age of beer on the shelf. Like most beer stores in this region, there isn't necessarily the greatest turnover in terms of volume: there was some just-past-"drink by" Stone Ruination on the shelf, for example. Ideally this stuff would be replenished every couple of weeks or something, but that's more than can be expected in a market like upstate NY. Still, nothing looked horribly outdated or dusty, so that's a plus, and the large amount of cooler space is also a plus, in terms of quality.

I didn't seek out or receive any assistance, so I can't speak to that, really. I gave it a 3.5 here entirely out of speculation, as I can't imagine whoever was behind the counter at the front of the store would be able to tell me all that much about release dates, styles, or that sort of thing. But again -- totally speculative. This also goes for the food. It looks tasty enough, but I didn't get any of it. I'm giving it a "good" because they've got Byrne Dairy ice cream there, and c'mon -- local ice cream is always good.

The selection is pretty great, actually. There's not much in the way of imports and Belgians -- check Brilbeck's if that's what you're looking for -- but what the Galeville Byrne Dairy really excels at is the New York selection. I've never seen so much local / regional beer on the shelves, and frankly I've never seen some of these breweries stocked in another beer store: Rohrbach, Keuka, and Horseheads, plus a good selection Middles Ages, Lake Placid, Ommegang, etc. Pretty awesome, if you're looking for NY beer, which I definitely support.

And again, perhaps most importantly of all, is the value. This is "reasonable," though it edges toward "inexpensive." There aren't any killer sales or discounts that I could see, but the prices were all truly reasonable, and many of them were slightly better than expected. A lot of the beers were well-priced though, more than competitive. So that's great.

Bottom line, check out Galeville. They've got a great selection, nice space, and tons of local and hard to find NY / regional brews -- so especially if you're coming in from out of town and want to find something you won't find in the rest of the country, or want lots of craft beer that's already nice and cold, Galeville's your place.
